Procrastination killed the sloth!

Good afternoon buzzers,

It's been a hot minute since I was last here buzzing in your ear, eyes, or head. How do you 'read' content, do you make a voice and listen to it, or simply look at the words and 'read' it...

That wasn't the point of this post, although it does transition nicely into the topic. Procrastination.

That's right, the sloth's biggest enemy!

I haven't been active on Hive in almost 2 months! Well, discounting the odd check-in here and there I've hardly looked at my laptop at all over this time! And every time I thought of getting back into Hive and blogging and all the other things that come with it, I procrastinated my way away from it long enough to wait until the next day!

The biggest issue I found was every time I have done this I would push myself further away from getting back in and posting content. Each day I would pressure myself into thinking I had even more to do! How could I possibly get back into Hive now, there was 101 task awaiting to be completed!

However, I will only get out of this rut by biting the bullet and posting again! So here we go! The post that broke the camel's back? The final pebble that broke the damn? I don't know, I'm sure there's some saying that fits nicely here but for now, I'm just happy to be getting some words down!

It's too easy to pressure yourself into not doing something, for me at least. Maybe that's the sloth talking. I find it easier to ignore the pressure on myself to do something than I do to do nothing! It's all too easy to waste time (but I guess save energy) by watching TV or listening to music/podcasts and ignoring responsibility.

Sometimes we need to make the tough decisions, push ourselves further and find our buzz! I used to enjoy creating content, even if sometimes it felt a little forced. So many rules, and so many haters, that it's easier to do nothing!

I think I said that already, and having a glance through my post Grammarly is going insane, I have more red, blue, purple, yellow and green lines than I have ever seen! I think it wants me to buy premium, would this increase my productivity or entice the sloth to rear its little head even more? About £120 for the year if paid annually, it could be a great investment for me. Some of the premium features are bound to help my overall output, I guess I'll think about it if I do get back into the buzz!

Well, that's all for now, I'm already being distracted by half a dozen other things on Hive, so I'm making a start in tackling them, hopefully, this gets some momentum buzzing again!

Until next time,
sloth out!

Welcome back !

I totally get where you're coming from; the longer you leave it, the harder it is to get started again. It's a kind of guilt thing I guess, but there's actually nothing to feel guilty about.

If I can offer a tip, it's to work like a sloth. It's certainly how I work ! Sometimes, I just haven't got the brainpower to write anything. So I don't, and I don't let myself fret about it. But other times, I've got a buzz on and really feel like writing. So I'll put together two or three posts.

They don't have to get finished; it might be just the text, or an image or two, or sometimes just the idea and a couple of lines to remind me what I wanted to write.

I used to use Word, and store them on my PC until they were fully cooked, but now I tend to just create them as drafts in PeakD (mostly based on templates - the best thing PeakD have done, and a truly slothy way of working !) That way, I've got a backlog of a few things that won't take much effort to finish of and turn into actual posts when I don't feel like writing something from scratch.

Aaaand I just wrote a comment long enough to be a post in it's own right, lol. 😆

I thought this was your blog submission for the day haha! You’re right, there’s nothing to feel guilty about, however it’s easy to let yourself get stressed about the little things. I used to be similar, my drafts have a fair few posts, I prefer completing one fully though. Something about having those loose ends is just as stressful!

Sloth steps, I’ll get back into the swing of things soon enough. I think my real issue is trying to run my own account and the community accounts simultaneously, piles on pressure that’s not really there!

Thanks for stopping by !SLOTH

That's the biggest trap ever! The only solution is to start doing it, and sometimes, start with the smallest thing, and slowly unwind the knot... 😃

Welcome back!

You're right! One slothly step at a time is the only way forward. I think I've been somewhat productive today, so a good start to overcoming the procrastination!

I grew to hate grammarly with the incessant nagging to upgrade and poor customer service. So I switched to LanguageTool. And I found that the free version has everything that I need. Because the additional checks in the premium version seem too much for me as a casual writer. Either way, their premium price is only £60 a year.

Interesting, I hadn't heard of Languagetool before, but I'll take a deep dive into it and see which fits my needs. As long as I continue to buzz I'm sure one will be taking some money off me for premium soon enough! Thanks Keith!

You're welcome
