The first (and at this point probably last) time I ate crawfish, they were frozen and prepared at a friend's place. Let's just say they didn't agree with me in the long run.

oof. Yeah, there's not much reason to freeze these things and I would be afraid to eat them if they were. Perhaps you were in one of those regions that doesn't have them naturally. I have actually never seen them frozen.
Shellfish just generally speaking is something I would be apprehensive to eat frozen.
Do you have increased access to Alaskan King Crab? I remember reading somewhere that a lot of the boats used in that are from that part of the country. I really love crab legs, much more than I think any other seafood.
That is something I have never tried due to the obscene price. Even more common Dungeness crabs from the Washington and Oregon coast are too expensive.
maybe I am just in the dark and all seafood is super expensive. Crawfish aren't really seafood though, I guess they do live in water but not the sea.
