I was on vacation in Europe for nearly 3 weeks in June and it was amazing. Lots of photos to follow. We got lots of family time and some time to ourselves as well so it went really well.
While I was away the manager on our team of 2 resigned for a different opportunity so that was a surprise to come back to. He was still there but working out his notice. He took a week longer notice period to overlap for a longer time with me so that was good for the transition of duties. The executive in charge of our department booked a 1-1 meeting for the day I came back and although I knew the news he told me it and then said I'd be promoted to the leaving guy's role.
He gave me a new number of salary verbally and when I got the new offer letter it was higher so I was pleased with the acceleration of my salary and career.
Otherwise the same salary jump would have taken 2 years. Obviously I'm sad the guy left but I benefit from it. It's a pity that the company couldn't have promoted me and incentivized the other guy to stay even 1 year longer.
To celebrate my other half made cupcakes with cream and cream cheese frosting and fruit. Delicious.
