We were lucky that our friend invited us to his cabin. El Chino lives in the town of Viñales, where he has a rented house and his job, but he is passionate about adventures (although he doesn't have much room for it anymore). It turns out that some time ago he obtained this land in the interior of the mogotes. It is not very accessible, it is only 5 or 6 km from the village, but the road is quite uncomfortable. For those who have visited Viñales, I can put it in context: It is surrounding the Dos Hermanas mogote on the west side, passing the Mural of Prehistory, about 3 km to the north.
Since she told us about it, I was crazy to go. The morning flew by between chats and coffee brews. In that portal, time seems not to exist. She tells us stories of her adventures here, of how she spends time alone in this place, she points out in the distance where the caves are, where there is a small stream and the path to reach the top of the mogote. The air blows without a barrier, we don't feel the heat. He tells us about his plans for the site, he says he wants to plant trees. I take advantage of the opportunity and give him some advice, as I realize that the terrain varies a lot in very little space.
Nearby there is a Canopy... they had to take me obviously! Although the real objective of this trip was to know the conditions to be able to go well prepared to stay a few days. It is a rustic cabin, but with conditions, it has a bathroom, water, beds and some utensils. We have to bring food and something to light up, because there is no electricity or connection. It will be amazing to be there, hiking and exploring the area. Who knows what other plans may come up, life is unpredictable
Late in the afternoon we got hungry and there were only a few guavas in the bushes on the patio. We decided to go back to look for a place to eat. We ended up at Rachel's Restaurant, a very close friend of ours who, as soon as she found out we were in the area, invited us to eat. Here you can eat the best Creole food in the west. El Paraíso is an agro-ecological farm nestled on a hill overlooking the valley. The scenery is beautiful and to top it off they harvest their own food (or the vast majority of it).
This day was incredible, I have been left with the desire to return. The good thing is that I already know what I have to take with me. I hope it will be soon so I can share it with you.
