Yesterday I attended a collaborative performance of urban choreographic art organized by Compagnie Acte in Lyon (France) as part of International Women's Rights Day.
The show was created by Annick Charlot and Pierre Amoudruz, the lead dancer and choreographer is Emilie Harache, and co-creator, composer and musician is Pierre Adrien Théo, shown in one of the photos with his Bluetooth transmitter.
Twenty or so citizens who participated in the rehearsals also joined in the show.
Each of the hundred or so participants was equipped with headphones, enabling them to take part in this collective artistic experience.
Annick guided us through the show with her soothing, caring voice, against a musical backdrop.
In a gentle first step, Annick was able to create a group out of these 100 people, using a variety of exercises based on mobility.
One of the exercises I really enjoyed consisted in moving around randomly in the small crowd we were, and meeting a gaze then stopping, and staying face to face, eye to eye with another totally unknown person, for as long as we wanted, then leaving again and meeting another gaze.
The theme of the show was the place of women in the public space, particularly in urban areas, with their limited freedom of movement due to insecurity.
But also the place of women in society, with their under-representation in politics, in high positions in companies and in all organizations in general. They are also over-represented when it comes to carrying out the least rewarding tasks, such as housework, shopping and meal preparation.
A UN study claims that, at the current rate of reduction in male/female inequalities, it would take 300 years before there is real equality.
Accelerating this pace seems to be a social priority.
Little by little, as the show progressed, we were able to participate more and more, to feel the emotion rising, to dance in turn and enter into a kind of communion.
It was a wonderful experience.
This show has been around since 2021, and takes place all over the region on certain occasions. It varies in length - here it was a short 50-minute version, last year it lasted 2 hours, with choreographed scenes of aggression and rape.

Hier j'ai assisté à un spectacle collaboratif d'art chorégraphique urbain organisé par la Compagnie Acte à Lyon (France) dans le cadre de la journée internationale du droit des femmes.
Le spectacle a été crée par Annick Charlot et Pierre Amoudruz, la danseuse principale et chorégraphe est Emilie Harache, et co-créateur, compositeur, musicien est Pierre Adrien Théo que l'on voit sur une des photos avec son matériel émetteur Bluetooth.
Une vingtaine de citoyens complices ayant participé aux répétitions ont aussi intégré le spectacle.
Chaque participant, nous étions une centaine, était équipé de casques audio et nous avons ainsi pu participer à cette expérience artistique collective.
Sur fond musical Annick nous a guidé avec sa voix apaisante et bienveillante.
Dans un premier temps, et tout en douceur, Annick a pu créer à partir de ces 100 personnes un groupe qui fait corps à l'aide d'exercises divers basés sur la mobilité.
Un des exercises que j'ai beaucoup aimé consistait à se déplacer au hasard dans la petite foule que nous étions, et croiser un regard puis s'arrêter, et rester face à face, les yeux dans les yeux avec une autre personne totalement inconnue, le temps que nous voulions, puis repartir et croiser un autre regard.
Le thème du spectacle était la place des femmes dans l'espace public, urbain en particulier avec les limitations dans la liberté de déplacement liées à l'insécurité.
Mais aussi la place des femmes dans la société, avec leur sous représentation en politique, dans les postes élevés des entreprises et de toutes les organisations en général. Leur sur représentation aussi pour la réalisation des tâches les moins valorisantes comme le ménage, les courses, la préparation des repas.
Une étude de l'ONU affirme qu'au rythme actuel de réduction des inégalités homme/femme il faudrait 300 ans avant qu'il y ait une réelle égalité.
L'accélération de ce rythme semble être une priorité sociale.
Petit à petit, au fil du spectacle nous avons pu participer de plus en plus et sentir monter l'émotion, danser à notre tour et entrer dans une sorte de communion.
C'était une très belle expérience.
Ce spectacle existe depuis 2021 et se déroule un peu partout dans la région en certaines occasions, la durée est variable, ici c'était une version courte de 50 mn, l'an dernier il avait duré 2h avec des mises en scène chorégraphiées de situations d'agression et de viols, ma compagne y était allé mais je n'y avais pas assisté.
