Are you curious about the title I'm talking about? Normal milk tea? What is it? I always praise the milk tea shops I've been to, but this is the milk tea shop that I find has a taste that is too ordinary, even quite bad. People's lives are getting better and better, their tastes are also more advanced, but there is still a type of milk tea that I drink that tastes like the tea when I was in high school, exactly the milk powder flavor 8 years ago that I loved.
This flavor used to be very delicious to me, but now this milk tea flavor is terrible. While milk tea shops compete to bring the tea with the strongest tea flavor and also do not use syrup and artificial flavoring anymore, this milk tea shop still keeps the old style of making milk tea, using milk powder + fruit syrup.
Yesterday, because I was craving for bubble tea, I had bubble tea cup at Tony Tea, near at my house. Overall, the space is quite simple and nothing special. The only highlight is the birdcage-shaped bamboo swing in the middle of the shop, which looks nice and can be used as a seat. Other than that, this shop is nothinh special.
The menu has many types of bubble tea, but none of them stand out as unique or signature drinks. I ordered a green matcha tea bubble tea with brown sugar pearls and a Yunnan Chinese tea, but both of them disappointed me. Although the price is comparable to other bubble tea shops I have tried, the quality is not as good.
The green tea bubble tea looks quite attractive but when I took a sip, I only felt milk and sugar, without any tea flavor. It felt like I was drinking artificial bubble tea, pre-mixed in a factory with lots of flavorings. 🫣The sweetness was too strong, making it difficult for me to drink more than a few sips. The only plus point is that the pearls bubble are quite chewy and delicious. However, if the tea is not good, the whole drink is not impressive.😀
The Yunnan Chinese tea is not much better. I have heard about this tea and had high expectations, but it turned out to be nothing special. The taste is bland and lacks the depth and richness that I have experienced elsewhere.
The tea is served hot with a long biscuit on the side. The biscuit quite good with a rich buttery and slightly salty flavor but the tea is bland and forgettable.
This tea shops often serve Yunnan tea in traditional clay teapots to preserve the original warmth and flavor but at Tony Tea, the tea is simply served in a glass cup with a few dried rose petals, jujubes, and goji berries floating on the surface. It looks good but the taste is not as expected.
In addition milk tea, this shop also sells a variety of snacks such as : bread, spring rolls, dried beef, sausage, fried potato, and chicken. However, after my unimpressive bubble tea experience, I have no interest in trying anything else.
For me Tony Tea is not a place I will return. The space is average and the service is okay but the bubble tea is not good. If you are looking for a bubble tea shop with truly memorable flavors, this is not the place for you.
