If there is one dish that I will probably never get tired of, it has to be hor fun. There is just something so comforting about those wide, silky flat rice noodles. Because of their shape, they soak up the sauce so well, and every bite feels full of flavor. Of course, hor fun can also be a little messy to eat when you get too excited and start slurping too fast, so you definitely need to be careful unless you do not mind a few splashes here and there LOL.

Last night, I spent some time at Bishan Park to capture videos for my TikTok page. It was one of those evenings where I was walking around for quite a while, looking for nice angles, filming different spots, and just enjoying the park atmosphere. By the time I was done, I was already feeling quite tired and hungry, so I headed straight to the nearest hawker food centre to get my dinner.

That was when I came across Hock Heng Delights. It is actually the first stall there, which is why their menu board is marked with 01-01. I thought that was pretty cool and quite easy to remember too. They serve a variety of local dishes, so there were actually quite a few tempting options on the menu. Still, once I saw Beef Hor Fun, I already knew that was what I wanted.

The price was only SGD 5.50, which honestly made me curious. These days, many stalls sell similar dishes for more, so I was wondering whether the portion would be small or whether the ingredients would be limited. Since this stall is in Bishan, I also assumed operating costs would be higher, so I did not really expect too much for that price. But I decided to take my chances and just hope for the best.

When the food arrived, I was genuinely surprised in the best way. The serving looked generous right away. There was a good amount of hor fun, plenty of beef slices, and enough gravy to coat everything nicely. Visually, it already looked comforting and satisfying. From the portion alone, I could already tell that this meal was worth it. In fact, even before tasting it, I was already thinking that I would probably come back again to try their other dishes.

As for the taste, I really liked it from the first bite. The flavor was more subtle compared to some beef hor fun dishes that go very heavy on seasoning, but that was actually what made this one enjoyable. It had a nice balance of savory sauce and beef flavor without becoming too salty. The noodles had a smooth and soft texture, and because they were well soaked in the gravy, every bite felt delicious.
One thing I noticed was that the sauce was more on the runny side rather than thick and starchy. Personally, I did not mind that at all. In fact, I think it gave the dish a lighter feel while still keeping all the flavor. It also made the hor fun extra slurp-worthy, which for me is always a good sign.

The beef slices were another highlight. They were tender, soft, and easy to chew, which made the whole dish even more enjoyable. The vegetables could have been a bit more generous, but honestly, I was fine with that since the noodles and beef were already given in such satisfying portions.

By the end of the meal, I found myself finishing up every bit of the sauce because it was just that enjoyable. It was simple, comforting, and exactly the kind of dinner I needed after a tiring evening out.
This plate of Beef Hor Fun from Hock Heng Delights really exceeded my expectations. Affordable, filling, and tasty too. Definitely a spot I would not mind revisiting again.
Bon appétit!
