My Woodlands Food Adventure

in #food2 days ago

So for today’s post, I want to share my food adventure from yesterday. I think I ate so much that I might have reached a new level of gluttony!

As I mentioned in my blog yesterday, I visited the Woodlands Food Street Bazaar. But before that, I stopped by a nearby hawker centre for breakfast noodles. I just really like starting my day with a nice, satisfying meal, especially when I know the rest of the day will be tiring. It’s best to fuel up early to have the energy needed for long walks.

For my first meal of the day, I had Umian with minced meat and shredded cucumber as toppings. It’s a simple dish, but it has all the right components to power up my day.

The noodles provide a good amount of carbohydrates, and I especially enjoy them when they’re handmade and fresh, you can really feel the difference in texture compared to the machine-made version. The minced meat was sautéed in a soy-based sauce with chili flakes, which enhanced the flavor perfectly. That served as my protein source, while the shredded cucumbers added an interesting twist. At first, I was curious why anyone would put cold, shredded cucumbers on a bowl of steaming hot noodles, but it actually makes sense. Mixing them in cools down the noodles and prevents overcooking. It’s such a clever way to balance the dish, keeping it perfectly cooked and adding vitamins and fiber too.

After having a quick lunch at the Food Street Bazaar and walking around for hours, I went to the mall to cool down and relax for a bit. But, as always, I ended up wandering into the basement where more food stalls were waiting for me. That’s when I found myself lining up at a stall called Munchi Pancakes. These are traditional-style pancakes that have been modernized, and that instantly caught my attention. They offer both classic and reinvented flavors, and I just had to try one. I ordered the Charcoal Pancake with Hazelnut, and I loved it.

The pancake was moist and soft, and the filling tasted like a delicious blend of Nutella and KitKat bars. I’m not sure how they pulled that off, but I really enjoyed it. I’ll definitely go back to try their other flavors.

Finally, for dinner, I had Seafood Fried Rice, OMG, what a way to end my day. I thought I was already satisfied after all the meals I’d had, but I started craving fried rice and just couldn’t wait another week. So I broke my healthy eating routine and treated myself to a hearty serving of seafood fried rice with a fried egg on top. Totally worth it!

Looking back, it was definitely a day filled with delicious discoveries and guilty pleasures. I didn’t plan to eat that much, but every bite was worth it. Sometimes, food adventures like these remind me that it’s okay to indulge once in a while and simply enjoy the moment. Exploring new places and flavors always makes me appreciate how vibrant our local food culture is. I’m already excited for my next foodie escapade—who knows what I’ll find next time!
