Tender, Gelatinous, and Sinfully Good... My Braised Pig’s Trotter Dinner

in #food3 hours ago (edited)

Tonight’s dinner was something tender, rich, gelatinous, and honestly a bit sinful in the best way possible. It was Braised Pig’s Trotter! 😁

This is the kind of dish that I don’t eat often, and maybe that’s also the reason why it feels special whenever I have it. It is not something that I would consider as an everyday meal because, of course, I still try to be conscious about what I eat. But there are moments when I just want to deviate from my usual food choices and enjoy something that feels comforting, heavy, and full of flavor.

And tonight was definitely one of those moments.

The stall that I ordered from is called 85 Stew, and from the look of their menu, they offer quite a nice variety of dishes. It’s not a very huge menu, but I think that’s also a good thing. Sometimes, a smaller menu means the stall can focus more on perfecting the cooking technique. They have chicken soup, curry dishes, braised pork, and even seafood noodles, so there is still enough variety to make the stall interesting.

But for tonight, my attention went straight to the pork dish.

The moment the bowl arrived, I already knew that this would be a very satisfying meal. The braised sauce looked dark, glossy, and intense. It had that deep color that usually gives you a hint that the flavor has been cooked down properly. Together with a bowl of plain white rice, it really looked like a classic comfort meal. Nothing too fancy, nothing overly decorated, but very appetizing in its own humble way.

The pig’s trotter itself was perfectly tender. The meat was soft and easy to pull apart, while the skin had that gelatinous texture that I really enjoy. I know not everyone is a fan of this kind of texture, but for me, that soft and slightly sticky mouthfeel is the highlight of this dish. It feels rich, succulent, and indulgent.

What I liked even more was the sauce. I expected it to be very heavy and maybe too oily, but surprisingly, the sauce had a slightly sour side to it. That little sourness helped to cut through the richness of the pork, making the whole dish more balanced. Without that, I think the meal could easily become too much after a few bites. But because of that tangy touch, I kept going back for more.

Eating this also made me think that food is really not just about nutrition. Of course, nutrition is important, and I’m not saying we should forget about it. But food also gives us happiness, excitement, and even memories. There are dishes that can somehow make us feel better about life, even just for a short moment. This Braised Pig’s Trotter felt like that for me tonight.

It was nostalgic, comforting, and very satisfying. The kind of meal that makes you slow down and appreciate every bite.

Overall, I would say this was such a treat. The pork was tender, the skin was beautifully gelatinous, and the sauce had enough depth and balance to make the dish enjoyable with rice. Definitely not something I would eat every day, but once in a while, this kind of rich and flavorful meal is worth it.

Bon appetit!
