Cooking Blog: Pancit For Our Lunch

in Hive Food5 days ago

Hello, how are you? In Filipino culture, we believe that eating pancit is special occassion like birthday give longevity and good fortune. The idea of eating the long strands of noodles represents the idea of a long and prosperous life.

When I was young, I used to joke a lot that "no, it is not, and I almost choked on it just earlier from eating it LOL." My grandma used to sell pancit before, so when I needed breakfast, I just went to my grandma's house next door and asked for one hehe.

Ingredients I Used:

  • 1 tbsp. Cooking Oil
  • 1/4 cup Ground Pork
  • Garlic
  • Red Onion
  • Celery
  • Carrots
  • String Beans
  • Red Bell Pepper
  • Cabbage
  • Water
  • Soy Sauce
  • Ground Pepper
  • Oyster Sauce
  • Chicken Broth Cube
  • Bihon Noodles
  • Boiled Egg

Let's Cook!

In a hot pan, I add 1 tbsp of cooking oil.

Add 1/4 cup of ground pork and cook it until crispy. I set it aside for later.

In the same pan, I added the garlic, red onion, and celery. Sautee until the aroma comes out.

Add the carrots and stir-fry for about half a minute.

Add the string beans and red bell pepper and stir-fry for half a minute too.

Then I added the cabbage and cooked it for about a minute.

Then I added a 1/4 cup of water and poured it into the veggies, and this way it will slightly tenderize the vegetables. Make sure to evaporate all the water.

Then I added the meat back.

Season it with 2 tablespoons of soy sauce and 1/4 teaspoon of ground black pepper.

Mix everything until well combined. Set aside for later.

In the same pan, I pour 1 1/2 cups of hot water, and I season the water with a chicken broth cube.

And to add color to the broth, I added a tablespoon of soy sauce.

When the broth starts boiling.

I am going to add the bihon noodles.

And then when the noodles are tender to taste, I am going to season it again with soy sauce.

Add the veggies and meat. Mix

Add oyster sauce. I added about 6 tablespoons of it.

I pair it with a boiled egg, which is perfect.

Happy eating!

It seems really divine. And even more so when lately I'm in the mood to make flour. But zero carbs for a while hehe. Greetings and bon appetit
