El hemisferio norte vive su máximo esplendor: la última cosecha antes de que la tierra inicie su merecido descanso. Puede que en la modernidad este ritmo ya no sea tan evidente, pero no podemos negar que estamos hechos de tradiciones, ciclos y memoria.
Aunque en mi país las estaciones no están marcadamente definidas, si prestas un mínimo de atención, esa ciclicidad sutil se puede percibir.
El viento cambia, se arremolina. La lluvia cae con más fuerza, trayendo consigo ese inconfundible olor a tierra mojada. Los abrigos ligeros salen del clóset, y el café de la mañana se siente más reconfortante. Es, sin duda, una de mis épocas favoritas.
Esta estación está cargada de gratitud, abundancia y la honra a los ancestros. Miremos al mundo y encontraremos infinitas celebraciones que lo demuestran: El Diwali en India, el Tsukimi en Japón, el Chuseok en Corea, el Festival de Medio Otoño en China, Malasia y Singapur, Festival de luna llena en Vietnam, el Día de Muertos en México, Samhain en partes de Europa y el Acción de Gracias en Estados Unidos.
La Aventura de la Abundancia: Probando el Famoso Mooncake
De todas estas tradiciones, siempre me llama poderosamente la atención su gastronomía. ¡Así que, a lo que vinimos!
Después de mucho tiempo buscando, por fin pude comprar el tan famoso Pastel de Luna (Mooncake o yuèbǐng). El día de la luna llena, visité un pequeño local, una franquicia de Asia Market, donde encontré algo de variedad de rellenos: coco, durián y el clásico de loto.
Amé la presentación. A primera vista, es un pastel redondo, de un patrón floral exquisito, una corteza crocante y un relleno untuoso, pero a la vez firme. El sabor del relleno de loto era fresco, no tan dulce como esperaba, con un ligero y agradable aroma. En particular, me gustó muchísimo; es de esas cosas que pruebas y te reconfortan en el primer bocado.
La tradición detrás del mooncake es hermosa:
- La forma redonda: Representa el ciclo de la luna llena y, sobre todo, la unión familiar (la redondez del círculo perfecto).
& Los patrones en la pasta: geométricos y florales simbolizan la armonía y la longevidad.
Como el calendario lunar difiere de nuestro calendario occidental, el conteo no es exacto. Se dice que este manjar debe consumirse el decimoquinto día del octavo mes lunar.

Honoring Autumn (Even if You Live in the Tropics)
The northern hemisphere is at its peak: the last harvest before the earth begins its well-deserved rest. This rhythm may not be as evident in modern times, but we cannot deny that we are shaped by traditions, cycles, and memory.
Although the seasons are not clearly defined in my country, if you pay close attention, you can perceive this subtle cyclicality.
The wind changes, swirling. The rain falls harder, bringing with it that unmistakable smell of wet earth. Light coats come out of the closet, and morning coffee feels more comforting. It is, without a doubt, one of my favorite times of year.
This season is filled with gratitude, abundance, and honoring our ancestors. If we look around the world, we will find countless celebrations that demonstrate this: Diwali in India, Tsukimi in Japan, Chuseok in Korea, the Mid-Autumn Festival in China, Malaysia, and Singapore, the Full Moon Festival in Vietnam, the Day of the Dead in Mexico, Samhain in parts of Europe, and Thanksgiving in the United States.
The Adventure of Abundance: Trying the Famous Mooncake
Of all these traditions, I am always particularly drawn to the cuisine. So, let's get down to business!
After searching for a long time, I was finally able to buy the famous Mooncake (yuèbǐng). On the day of the full moon, I visited a small store, an Asia Market franchise, where I found a variety of fillings: coconut, durian, and the classic lotus.
I loved the presentation. At first glance, it is a round cake with an exquisite floral pattern, a crispy crust, and a creamy yet firm filling. The flavor of the lotus filling was fresh, not as sweet as I expected, with a light and pleasant aroma. I particularly liked it a lot; it's one of those things that you try and feel comforted by the first bite.
The tradition behind the mooncake is beautiful:
- The round shape: It represents the cycle of the full moon and, above all, family unity (the roundness of the perfect circle).
& The patterns on the pastry: geometric and floral, symbolize harmony and longevity.
As the lunar calendar differs from our Western calendar, the count is not exact. It is said that this delicacy should be eaten on the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month.
I hope to continue trying more traditional delicacies of the
autumn season.
