I am so very sorry. Frightening, indeed. My brother had rheumatic fever as a child and a buildup of fluid as a result. The memory of not being able to breathe stayed with him his whole life, even though he recovered. He couldn't tolerate anything covering his face.
You were wise to move in close to family and it sounds like you have access to topnotch medical care. Eat up!! Do your walking. These medicines are as important for you as the nebulizers, antibiotics and cortisone.
