Shall we start with small talk, like the weather?
A gorgeous Sunday arrived with sunny skies that did not disappear as has been happening ever since my move to greener grass. I thought I'd made a mistake: is this how the weather is in this part of the world? We often drove up here to explore the many quaint places aimed at tourists, and locals as well. But always on warm sunny days.

I'd seen many cars pull into a dusty driveway right across the Blackwood Nursery we used to frequent in Assagay, Hillcrest, over the years. I became curious: Bona Terra Café always is busy, and actually is in the grounds of another nursery, Assagay Garden Centre. I wanted to see what the big attraction was! Plants were less pricey, but they did not have a big selection.

What looked like a small building from the outside turned into an expansive area with a large kiddies playground and seating scattered around - sunny as well as shaded. There was plenty of seating inside, but most people chose to sit outside and make the best of the weather.

Smoke and delicious aromas from the wood-fired pizza oven were billowing up in the air from the time we arrived. Home-baked cakes were very tempting, although there wasn't much left by the time we left; we chatted. A lot!

I liked the quaint decor and the way they repurposed some antiquated stuff that often ends up in junkyards.

The large playground is set out really nicely, perfect to stop the kids from getting bored while Moms and Dads, as well as Grandpa and Grandma, can play catch-up on the week's happenings and enjoy their meals. Obviously popular for family get-togethers! Play areas weren't restricted to outdoors; there were areas protected from bad weather with different activities. The very large jumping cushion did not stop bouncing from the time we arrived till we left.

We stopped by the De Mont Decor & Furniture store, where I picked up a coaster set featuring artwork by one of the founders of Art Nouveau, the Austrian symbolist painter Gustav Klimt.

I almost forgot to mention our food. And the very good cappuccino and chococcino.

My friend chose Eggs Benedict with Salmon, but had already destroyed the pretty plate by prodding the egg to make sure it was cooked through - she has tummy issues and cannot do soft eggs! Pure sacrilege!

I went for something different: French Croissant topped with crispy Bacon, Preserved Figs, roasted Pecan Nuts, and Creme Fraiche. It was indulgent and very good!

Will I go back? The answer is yes, for sure. There are some other options I'd like to try, like the homemade cheesecake, boring, yes, but it rarely disappoints, no matter where I go!
