These crackers might catch your attention if, like me, you're thinking about the festive table for the New Year or if you don't really give a damn about it all. They can also be the ideal snack for unexpected guests or a way to pass the time while watching your favorite movie, but I'm sure you can find a purpose for them or give them a chance at all.
I could still remember them from when my friend's mother used to make them. Hers were more artistically prettier than mine, and since they were partly covered in sesame and poppy seeds, it was difficult to stay away from 'just one more.'
Two cans of beer have been sitting on the fridge shelf for quite some time; obviously, we won't be drinking them anytime soon, so I remembered this recipe, which includes beer as one of the main ingredients.
Ingredients needed
600 gram flour bag baking powder
200 ml beer 200 ml oil 1 teaspoon salt
100 g sesame seeds, or cumin, sunflower seeds, or any combination that suits you best.
Mine choice was cumin, I just like it's taste!
In a mixing bowl, combine all of the ingredients, including the seeds. The beer will quickly react with the baking powder, and after a few minutes of mixing, the dough will have a foamy rubbery texture; don't worry about the holes in the dough; it's a completely normal process, and it will look great after baking.
Because the dough contains a lot of oil, you won't need any additional flour to dusting the work area, nor will you require baking paper, therefore the exact 600 gr will be enough.
The crackers I remember were spiral-shaped, and when I went looking through the cookie cutters, the shape of an angel seemed the most fitting; after all, who has ever seen an angel with a beer?
Now is the ideal moment for the angels to chill and relax a bit + it's festive time of the year!
Use a rolling pin to roll out the dough no thicker than 2 cm.
Then spawn as many angels as you want (apparently I need dozens).
To break up the monotony, I sliced the remaining dough into strips and then formed the spirals.
Crackers can be a great appetizer if served with your favorite sauce, so I thought to spice them up a little more, ground chili seemed like a tempting combination with cheese spread.
Although it might be best to divide the ingredients at the very beginning and immediately add the extras, somehow the ideas always come to me during the process itself, so I mixed the rest of the dough, sprinkled with chili, reworked and shaped it. Although it wasn't divided equally, the burning sensation will still be noticeable in every bite (albeit in some might feel it more intensely; in that case, the second can of beer will be plenty to ease the taste).
Cut into regular sticks and ready for the heated oven at 200°C, baking will not last longer than 15 minutes and after cooling they are ready to be served.
Easy peasy!
These crackers are a housewife's dream come true since they only require an hour, total for both the baking and preparation!
The drunkest of all angels, needed a helping hand.
Bon appetite!🌲
