Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to talk about interesting food preferences as I get older!

Bovine Adjustments
First, I apologize I don't have seemingly any food photos LOL but this is about food! :D
Have you gotten something that you thought was going to be good, but just wasn't..?
I know that my tastes have evolved over the years. I've been into a lot of different things in the food realm, where a lot of it has thankfully been pretty healthy. One of the things I've been doing more recently is trying to consume more meat and less grains so that my inflammation levels go down and it's been really good for a lot of areas for me!
Living in America, we sadly tend to get a lot of fucked up stuff going on. One of the big areas that really bothers me, and there are several, is the food that most people consume. The fast food, utter dumpster garbage that is fed to millions of people every day. Ultra processed, fried and processed in the worst industrial lubricants man can produce, known as seed oils, and you've got one hell of a recipe for some poor health outcomes.
Having known this for a long time, one of the things I've been doing is really tried to change and improve my diet. There are certainly times where I'm better at it than other times, but for the most part I am doing pretty well with it which is great. One of the things that I have had issues with though is inflammation especially around my joints, so I've been looking for ways to reduce that as much as I can. I've largely removed peanut butter and gluten, which has helped tremendously!
Getting more into the meat side of things.. I've been eating a lot more steak and chicken than I have in a really long time, since I was living in my parents house really. That's because steak, if you get it directly from a good source like a meat market butcher, can be incredibly healthy for you! The funny part about it as well is that I've been buying the most inexpensive cuts of it because I can't really afford the fancy stuff, so I've really enjoyed that.
The other day I decided to splurge.. and get one of the more expensive cuts! It was a porterhouse steak with the bone. I cooked that shit up the way I normally do for my steaks... and it was disgusting LOL it was way too fatty! I was appalled. I for sure finished it, because that fucker was expensive but I was also really annoyed but laughing at the same time!
In my desire to consume more meat.. I was getting the "cheaper" cut of beef which also ends up being the leanest part of the cuts they do. I am going to continue to shop around the different ones on display, such as this weekend I'll move over to a Delmonico or one of the other steak cuts but good old London Broil for me is the best! It's super lean, incredibly delicious and has the perfect flavor. Not too fatty, not too lean. I'm wondering if it's end up tasting more like game meat than anything which would be cool, because I want to go hunting in the near future.
I found it really funny though that the "fancy" cut of the meat, and the one with more fat on it, was actually far less appealing for me because I'm not interested in consuming giant hunks of grain-fed fat. Animal fat is incredibly nutritious and I actually cook all of my steak in bacon grease, but there is for sure a limit. I am not interested in consuming giant pieces of fatty meat. I think that's one of the weirder parts of the American style for beef consumption: the focus on more fat is better. No it ain't! LOL
What about you, have you found something that you were interested in trying because it was more expensive, but it ended up being gross? Let me know in the comments!
