Do You Dare Eating Fresh Oysters?
Hello food lovers , my name is @eijnuj06, and I'd like to share with you another eating adventure. If you are scared to consume oysters because of their slimy appearance, let me alter your mind.
On June 6, 2025, at 5:30 a.m., I decided to go running in Consolacion, Cebu, near my home in Mandaue City, to work up a sweat and prepare for the CPA FUN RUN. I was accompanied by my partner, but she was only sitting beside my motorcycle, watching me run. After about an hour of jogging, I decided to stop and hunt for a nearby restaurant to eat breakfast, which led us to Temyong's Talabahan And Bangus Grill.
Talaba is a Tagalog term for oyster in English, and Bangus is a Tagalog name for milkfish. The restaurant was close to my jogging spot, which was at Libo Consolacion Cebu, near Libo Street Food Park. The restaurant opens its doors at 6:30 a.m.
We walk to the order area at the back of the restaurant, where you may buy oysters by the kilo, with prices varying according to size. They serve a variety of seafoods, including squid, shrimp, and bangus (milkfish). They also provide pork chops. If you purchase oysters and pork chops, they will grill them; however, if you want other seafoods, they will cook them according to your specifications. They will ask if you want your shrimp or milkfish grilled, sinigang (sour soup), or buttered garlic. They will ask if you want grilled squid or adobo (a marinated and cooked mixture of vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, and other spices).
We order 1/2 kilo of grilled pork chops, 2 kilos of grilled talaba (oysters), 1 piece of grilled squid that weighs nearly 1/2 kilo, and 10 pieces of Puso (hanging rice). We go to our chosen table and wait for the order. They served our order after around 25 minutes of waiting. Then I get some vinegar for Talaba sauce and add a lot of chilies since I like it spicy.
The other side dishes are very tasty (grilled squid and grilled pork chops). But I won't go into detail about that dish because our major emphasis and dish to review is the Grilled Talaba (Oyster). Look at this slimy figure 😁, can you dare to eat it? But for me, it's so delicious that if you put the Spicy Vinegar and Calamansi in your mouth and chew it directly, your mouth will water. It smells like the sea and has a refreshing sensation to it. It will make an excellent companion or complement to the Puso (hanging rice).
Eating fresh oysters is also unusual for some people, but believe me, it will be an exciting experience for you, especially if you are a food explorer. For your information, oysters are high in protein, vitamins, and minerals. But don't eat it raw; it tastes better when grilled. My advise is to start with a little oyster to get a feel for the texture and taste. If you don't like the appearance of the oyster but want to test its taste, simply close your eyes when you put it in your mouth. It has a chewy, slimy taste like the sea. Eating it will provide a thrilling experience for those ready to take a risk.
My partner and I had a great meal at Temyong's Talabahan and Bangus Grill.
Thank you for sticking around and reading my blog till the conclusion. I began with a question, and I will conclude with the same question:
