I've never been a fan of hummus. Whenever I tried it, it was bland and boring. It just didn’t taste good to me especially for someone who was born in the Caribbean and was use to eating a lot of spices. Since I have been on a journey to eat better, I though I should gave it another shot and make my own. Now it's one of my favorite snacks. By infusing this Middle Eastern classic with a spicy kick, I created a hummus that satisfies my island palate.
Ingredients
- Chick peas (32oz)
- Red Bell Pepper (1/2)
- Small White Onion (1/4)
- Garlic (2 cloves)
- Cumin (1/2 tsp)
- Salt (to taste)
- Pepper (to taste)
- Crushed Red Pepper (optional)
- Haitian Seasoning
*Servings: 6
Instructions
Rinse the chickpeas then add to a large bowl.
Add Red Bell pepper, chop onion, garlic, cumin, salt, crushed red pepper, oil, to large bowl.
Mix well and add to processor or high power blender. I used a NutriBullet.
Transfer to a serving, sprinkle it with cilantro, drizzle with olive oil.

Tips
- If you're using a NutriBullet like me, you'll achieve that irresistibly smooth texture in no time. If using a food processor, you may need to scrape down the sides for even blending.
- Test out your own favorite seasonings.
