Hive Fork in Dubrovnik Croatia

in Foodies Bee Hive22 hours ago

Bear with me, Hive will fork. It happened at Dubrovnik in Croatia last September after Hive Fest. If you missed it, don't worry, I will show you in a minute. But first of all, shall we grab some food? Let's go for my favourite - seafood. The location is at a restaurant called Barba in Dubrovnik Old Town.

Barba is very small, I reckon it only sits around 15 people max. It doesn't take reservations and I know the tables fill up pretty quickly at dinner time. Luckily, I was staying two minutes walk away, and went over to grab a table quite early before the crown started to build up. I still had to wait about 5 minutes but that was ok, and I got this table. This is pretty much how big it is inside the restaurant.

There were a few more seats by the window in the front of the restaurant. I took this photo after I had my dinner and was leaving. A small queue was forming already. These people have a long wait.

Food wise, we ordered a seafood platter it has a bit of everything. It was more than enough for the two of us and was very nice. We love seafood, and it's unusual to find any seafood that we don't like. I particularly love the oysters and the fried calamari. And the big pool of fried sardines was great to go with the beer. The platter came with a massive burger. We got to choose from octopus, tuna or shrimp, and went for the shrimp one. It was a good choice!

Hive Fork

Ok, enough of the food. I promised you the Hive Fork, and here it is 😊
1000020324.jpg

You may have noticed in some of the previous photos, there were a lot of these wooden forks stuck all over the restaurant. Yup, go back and check them if you missed it, and there are more below. They're literally everywhere in the restaurant. Even around the lamp shades!

I think this is a great way to keep customers occupied as they wait for their food, not that it took long for mine to arrive. A lot of restaurants give children drawing and colouring sheets, so this is just an adult version of the same. It's so affordable and effective to create a unique decor for the restaurant. Brilliant idea.

Coming fresh from HiveFest, I grabbed some pens and started to draw the Hive logo, red on black background. Unfortunately it didn't work and the two colours bled together. Woops! What a disaster!

Change of design, no solid colours, just outline. My second attempt was much better, I think, even though the V is a little wonky. It didn't take long for me to finish my master piece, just in time for my food to arrive.

And here's the final Hive Fork. What do you think?

The fork none of us were expecting!

That place looks really cool. That platter would have been right up my street!

Ha Ha! Sometimes I do admire the ingenuity and creativity in me 😆

You must get a lot of nice seafood up your way, I remember when I was in Isle of Skye the other year, we had the most delicious scallops. Freshly dive and caught in the morning. I so wanna go back for my more again

Oh I love seafood too… any of it. It looks delicious.
What a cute place, I love small little restaurants.
The HIVE fork is awesome! A great second design. For all of the world to see.
Have a nice evening 😊

I hope the Hive Fork is still there and someone from the chain will see it if they ever visit. There were so many forks I had difficulty finding somewhere to put it. Originally I was going to add it to lampshade above my table but it was very difficult as it kept swinging and I nearly caused the existing ones to drop!

Way to keep me engaged. I honestly thought I'd missed something major.

Haha! I thought it would be a great click bait, and to be fair, it was a Hive Fork. I didn't lie 😉

Ah, that kind of fork! Looks like a good amount of food. That place must keep busy to pay the bills. I was in Dubrovnik many years ago on a cruise before the war, but don't remember much about it.

Dubrovnik gets a lot of cruise visitors, it was swamped with them everyday we were there, luckily for us they all leave in the afternoon. It's very difficult to get to see more of a place during a cruise, that's why I'm not a massive fan of them, but they're great for been there and done it, plus the great food on board

I've only been on two. One around the Med when I was about 13 and Norway a couple of years ago. It's not really our thing, but I can see the attraction.

Hola, me impresiones con la comida la cantidad es para quedar satisfecho y la hamburguesas gigante es hecha de un pan marrón , debe ser trigo integral, es bastante ingenioso eso de los tenedores con dibujos. Felicidades .

The burger bun was very nice and soft and the whole dining experience was excellent especially the self entertainment part

Wasn't expecting that type of fork 😂

And that seafood plate looks HUGE (and delicious)! No surprise there's a queue to eat in this restaurant.

They really did pile it high with bits and pieces, took us a while to nibble through it all.

And the fork, I just couldn't pass on the chance to leave oue mark behind 😆

I can easily believe you: it looks a lot! How are the prices? A small place with few seats and high quality seafood should be expensive... but maybe if there's a queue... maybe even the prices are good! 🤣

Good pun, I wasn't expecting that 😂 It might be one of the best things you can do to pass the time in a restaurant. Hey, look what I found. A Turk visited there 🇹🇷

Well spotted amongst all those forks!! It's a great way to seal your relationship, I see it's a Turk x French one here. Perhaps you can drop yours here one day

I really hope so. It's so good as a memory

You're welcome @livinguktaiwan, good photos!

I see a fork with "HANOI-VIETNAM" above yours.
I'm from Vietnam and happy to see it :)

It was quite a global spread here, I'm glad you found one yours.

YEah!
Hive present!

Yup, left behind a Hive present for whoever finds it

Wow, that seafood plate looks so big and delicious. Happy to see some Hive forks in there, I definitely need to visit next time I am in Croatia. Thank you for sharing! :)

I see you're very well travelled and have just joined Hive not long ago, so welcome, and hope you're enjoying yourself.

If no one has mentioned it to you yet, I would highly recommend you to do a self introduction post so the community can get to know you better. You can stay anon if you want, that's fine, but just a general idea about who you are, how you found Hive etc would add a lot of creditability to your account.

Thank you so much for the kind words, I am really enjoying my time on Hive so far.

I appreciate the tip, but I think I would like to stay anonymous for the time being. At the moment, I find it is easier for me to write about my experiences than to write about myself. Some day this might change.

Have a great day!

5 minutes waiting is not long for me, for a new experience :) especially those forks. They really have a brilliant idea.

Well, your portion looks big for two people :)

I'm not familiar with fried sardines because in Indonesia, we only have canned sardines with various sauce options

The shrimp are my favorite,.I imagine they were delicious. Definitely, eating is a great pleasure.

As for the logo, you lacked precision. It's a very small space anyway, so it's still worth the try to leave Hive's mark on that restaurant.

This black hamburger looks interesting to me. what does such black dough taste like 🙂
Considering that a few years ago I saw the prices of drinks in Dubrovnik, coffee and cocktails, I can't even imagine how much lunch cost last year 🙂

But well, this drawing on wooden forks, apart from shortening the time of waiting for food, also comes as a relaxing therapy when you see the bill at the end 🙂

I've been to Dubrovnik once but we missed this restaurant. They had a great idea with the forks, indeed.

Ha bloody ha ha got me!

guess that is one restaurant I would avoid like the plague!! forks or no forks thank you

LOL the best Hive fork yet. 😂
