How I prepared my sweet breadfruit (ukwa) for dinner

in Foodies Bee Hivelast month

Good evening my lovely friends in rhis great community, that promotes good and healthy food. So today i prepared breadfruit known as "ukwa" in my igbo dialect, but before I proceed in the preparation let me tell you the health benefits of it based on my research...

Breadfruit contains essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron, and phosphorus, as well as antioxidants, making it a nutritious food for digestive and overall health. Apart from sustaining energy here are some of its content 👇

Carbohydrates:
Breadfruit is primarily a source of carbohydrates, providing sustained energy. A one-cup serving contains around 60 grams of carbohydrates.
Fiber:
It is rich in dietary fiber, which supports digestive health.
Protein:
While not a primary source, breadfruit contains a moderate amount of protein.
Fat:
Breadfruit is low in fat, making it a healthy choice for managing fat intake.
Vitamins
Vitamin C:
Breadfruit is an excellent source of Vitamin C, an important antioxidant that supports the immune system.

Getting to know the classes of food it contains, let's dig in to the preparation 😋👇..

Ingredients:

8cups of breadfruit
Fresh pepper
2 seasoning cube
Salt to taste
Handfull of Utazi leaf
1/2cup of Crayfish
2 spoon of red oil
4cups of water

Breadfruit doesn't require much ingredients because of its sweetened nature, some don't even add crayfish or utazi leaf to it but i choose to add it because of the sweet/bitter taste of it.

Steps in preparing it....

Step1: i washed the breadfruit up to 3times with water, then i poured it inside a pot and added water only to boil

Step2: while it is boiling, i selected the utazi leaf, washed it and sliced it to a desirable size, then blend the pepper and crayfish together and i put it in a plastic plate

Step3: i now checked the breadfruit to see if it has soften so as to add other ingredients, i now add the crayfish, pepper and seasoning cube and gave it a good stir.

Step4: the next thing I added, was the red oil and i allowed it to boil for about 5minutes more before adding salt and the leaf. Don't add salt before other ingredients, allow the breadfruit to soften very well ,else it will be strong. So after adding salt and the leaf, i stirred it and allow it to boil for 2more minutes before bringing it down

My delicious breadfruit is ever ready to be served hot 😋, come enjoy with me

Health Benefits
Antioxidant Properties: The presence of Vitamin C and provitamin A carotenoids gives breadfruit antioxidant properties.
Digestive Health: The high fiber content helps promote a healthy digestive system.
Heart Health: Fiber and potassium in breadfruit can support cardiovascular health.

See you on my next blog 💕

My pleasure 🤗

This is one of the meals I've never tasted. I also heard it takes time to cook. Is it true?
Maybe I will try it sometime in the future. I think it should go well with scent leaves because utazi has a bitter taste.

It doesn't take time to cook, but some people that sell it do wash and preserve it with akawu, making it to be strong and delaying while cooking.

Breadfruit is already sweet, I prefer utazi for it's bitter/sweet taste. I don't like the taste of scent leaf. But Anambra people use bitterleaf to cook their own.

Okay. I wouldn't explore in the future. Does it taste like beans? 🫘

Sweeter than beans

Woahhh 😮😲

Yea 😊

Looks super delicious. This food is popular in my side Imo state. We even have a tree inside our compound. I love ukwa, but I prefer the fried one. Never knew you love it. One of the most delicious meals to enjoy

Waw

I do love it
