In my opinion, a soup made with okra and meatballs is a fantastic combination of ingredients, and when paired with small shrimp, it becomes absolutely delicious.

Hello, foodies! Today, I’m going to show you how to prepare one of my favorite vegetables. Okra, also known as “oyong,” is a vegetable with a rich umami flavor—its natural sweetness and savory notes really stand out on the palate, especially when combined with other delicious ingredients. For those of you who want to enjoy this vegetable, you can turn it into any kind of dish. In my opinion, any dish made with this vegetable will be incredibly delicious.

Well, as it happens, I have meatballs and small shrimp at home—the leftover meatballs from Eid when I made chicken noodle soup yesterday. My plan was actually to make a soup dish using those meatballs. To make the savory and umami flavors just right, I also added small shrimp for a more balanced result.

Ingredients

300 grams of gambas
8 meatballs
20 grams of small shrimp
2 cloves of shallot
1 clove of garlic
¼ teaspoon of ground pepper
1 tomato
1 stalk of green onion
2 stalks of celery

Preparation Procedure

As usual, I start by removing the tough ends from the gambas and then cut them into small pieces.

Look at the result—it’s so fresh and appetizing, isn’t it? You can add a squeeze of lime or kasturi orange juice when serving it. The result will be absolutely amazing and irresistible.

The combination of all the ingredients is absolutely perfect—gambas is truly delicious in a soupy dish, with a rich, savory umami flavor that melts in your mouth. The balance is spot-on for my palate; everything is perfect—I love every bit of it. The clear broth, enjoyed with warm white rice, is my go-to, or even sipped while still hot—oh, it’s so delicious, with a flavor profile that’s just right.

I love this soup , the umami flavor is something else.

Thank you very much

It's season of Okra these days in my country. I loved its taste and I love the recipe you shared.

Nurfay we usually cook fried okra with meatballs or chicken. This soupy okra looks delicious.

It looks like okra, but it’s not okra; it’s gambas, or what we usually call oyong in our area. This vegetable isn’t slimy at all.

This soup looks super good 😊😊

Thank you very much

It must have been delicious—chicken and shrimp go really well together, and the flavor is great. I tried it, but instead of meatballs, I used chicken breast. Best regards.

Your enthusiasm for cooking and the way you appreciate ingredients are truly inspiring. The combination of okra, meatballs and prawns sounds delicious and shows how creativity can transform what we have to hand into something exceptional. I love how you bring out the umami in the okra and its ability to enhance other flavours. Sometimes, the best recipes come from improvisation and making the most of leftovers, and your approach is a great example of this. I’m sure your soup will be a hit and a wonderful culinary experience.
