Hi hive foodies.
Well... in true British fashion, we seem to have brought the weather with us, and yesterday it rained in Mojacar, a place I am assured the rain falls for 47.6 days and collects up to 99mm (3.9") of precipitation each year.
I guess we got lucky 🙄😂
But we haven't let the weather dampen our spirits. Last night we jumped into our car and set off through the humid Spanish evening light to visit another of the restaurants we were recommended to visit here by a friend, Martin Morales Gastrobar.
The resturant is located on the main road that runs the length of Playa de Mojacar, right by the beach. It is also opposite the resort's favorite night club, Alma Beach Club.
The first thing I noticed as we sat down was how slick the interior of the restaurant looked, and after glancing at menu the second thing I noticed was the prices!
This place certainly shone with 10 stars in the 'value for money' category.
The set menu was extensive (please see picture), and at 18.95€ for three courses, my wallet was definitely happy 😉
Although Martin Morales Gastrobar wasn't quite at the same fine dinning level as La Parata which I reviewed on hive a few days ago, the food was great and my starter of tuna tartar was certainly pleasing to the eye. This starter came with some thin corn chips to compliment the tuna tartar and avocado mix, was scattered with small fish roe, but a word of warning, the jewels of wasabi paste are pure. I nearly blew my head of with the first mouthful as I took too much wasabi 😂
My girlfriend had the Scallops with pea puree, which came cooked in the shell in a sauce, and she said it was delicious.
For a main I had grilled fillet of Turbot in foil, which came with a side of traditional patatas with peppers and onions. This was so filling, and the fish was cooked perfectly. I'm a pescatarian which means I know my fish, and this Turbot grilled with julienned carrots & leaks was perfect. Cooked simply, without sauce to let the delicate flavour of the fish shine.
My girlfriend had the pork fillet with honey and mustard sauce which she said was moorish.
The deserts we chose were both decadent, but this is perhaps the only part of the meal that wasn't top notch, especially considering the price. The selection of deserts was amazing as there were five home made cake options to choose from apart from the deserts listed on the main menu.
My girlfriend opted for the chocolate Orio cake, which I had a taste of and it was creamy and delicious.
I went for the Nutella waffle with Milka ice cream. Don't get me wrong, it was decadently chocolatey, but the waffle was a little stodgy and the Milka ice cream was missing from the plate 🤔
But for 18.95€ for three courses, I could hardly complain.
All in all, I would rate Martin Morales Gastrobar. 8/10, although with a caveat that food snobs should stay away...
lol It's not that type of place... which can be a good thing.
Martin Morales Gastrobar is amazing value for excellent food, with a decent sized set menu and options for kids (see burgers and kids menu).
Bye for now hive foodies.
Please keep an eye on my blog over the next 10 days for more articles about my holiday in this area of Spain, and a few more foodie posts about some of the amazing restaurants here.
