First Day in Sanur & O'Sea Cafe & Eatery

in Foodies Bee Hive24 days ago

After Seminyak we landed in Sanur. Both places are around half an hour from the airport, so are very busy. We wanted to be close enough to pick up the grandchild and his parents from the airport, as it was the first time they'd been to Bali (well, almost - my son had been here with me when he was 4 on a stopover to the UK) and we wanted to make it as easy as possible for them.

We stayed at Gunakaya Homestay, about 500 metres from the seafront. Whilst you can stay at the Hyatt or the Intercontinental right on the beach, that was a little White Lotus for us and definitely over budget. We had an afternoon to spare before we picked them up so went and got a massage ($13) and I got a pedicure and my nails done ($10). This is Aussie dollars, mind, and considering a massage costs you $100 in Australia we were in heaven and would go on to have at least 15 massages between us.

We then found a place for lunch - O'Sea Cafe, which we would end up eating breaktast and dinner at nearly every day! They did an amazing smoothie bowl for $3.50 which was cold and refreshing, and good coffee as well. Jamie found his chicken with sambal metah, which was better than the one in Seminyak. He'd eat this a number of times before he left, that's for sure!

I loved my nasi campur. A nasi campur is rice with a selection of small dishes, like chicken, sweet tempeh, vegetables, a sambal, and on this one, a potato fritter of sorts.

Was pretty impressed to see an Aussie car rumble into a park out the front - an EH Holden. Bali streets are usually busy with scooters and small cars so a cool old car like this was definitely a highlight of the afternoon.

The cost was great all around - you could have a drink and food for two for under ten bucks. Why anyone would bother with the seafront and western style food like pizza is beyond me.

If you are in Sanur it's worth dropping into O'Sea - sure, it doesn't have the beachfront views, but it more than makes up for it with good food and service.

With Love,

That looks like tasty food, and a 'bonus that it's off the beaten path and affordable, too! What a score! 😃

So good. Thanks for stopping by and thanks for your support this week xx

Thinking of "off the beaten path" places, I remember something I did sometimes when I traveled years ago. I'd ask the front desk person where they would go for a nice meal. They would invariably start to mention the big touristy places, of course, but I'd politely stop them and say, "No, where would you go for a nice meal, as a 'local' person?" Their eyes would usually light-up and they'd suggest a lovely little spot down a side-street the tourists don't know about, with excellent food and a quiet atmosphere! 😁

Good food changes both the journey and the mood
