Hi Everyone,
Located at Empshere right near my hotel, it is my go to place if I want some seafood. I had two things in mind, river prawns and papaya salad. Eating alone could be a little hard as I can’t order too many varieties of dishes so I have to be careful with my choices. I ordered the large river shrimp and their salted egg papaya salad.
The river shrimp arrived grilled to smoky perfection, their shells slightly charred and the meat inside sweet, juicy, and full of that natural prawn flavour. The best part is the orange part, cholesterol overload. We don’t have these prawns back home so this is a must order for me.
The salted egg papaya salad (som tum kai kem) was equally as good. This place has the best flavour from all the restaurants I’ve tried on this trip, mainly because they put lots of lemon/lime sauce in there. Long strands of green papaya were tossed with large chunks of creamy salted egg yolk, a great combo. Green papaya in particular, is very expensive in Australia so restaurants will add lots of carrots to this dish to prop it up, but the taste is different.
If you’re looking for a spot that offers fresh, market-quality Thai seafood dishes, do come to this restaurant. Prices aren’t cheap, including the tax and service charge of 17%, but see it as a special treat/meal. The large river shrimp is a must-try, and make sure to pair it with vermicelli like I have chosen.
