Hello all, hope all of you are doing fine this lovely midweek. Over the weekend, I brought my wife to have a taste of a particular stall that I frequent with my colleagues as she mentioned to me a couple of times that she wanted to try out this stall, so we came down to the stall and let my wife have a try.
The Place
Ah Di Braised Duck Rice and Kway Chap
Address: Woodlands North Plaza, 883 Woodlands Street 82, Singapore 730883
This is a stall selling duck rice in a coffeeshop located in a neighbourhood mall.
Here's how the place looks like:

If you are visiting here, there is ample parking located here because this is a neighbourhood mall. And if you visit during 12pm-2pm, parking is free as well. The only thing that can be worrying is that this coffeeshop does not have loads of seating, so at times you might have to wait a little before being able to get a seat. But otherwise, it is generally clean, well ventilated but without air-condition.
Now let's get right on the food.
The Food
We were really hungry and since I am familiar with this place, I made the order for the food and here's what I ordered for the both of us:
- Duck Rice for 2 people
- One Plate of Kway Chap
And here is the photo of the spread of food that I've ordered.

It was a long queue but the wait was worth it as I know how good it is. While it looks messy, somehow for braised duck rice and kway chap, the messier it is, the better it is.
So now let's dive into each of the items that we ordered.
Duck Rice

Typically, duck rice set for 2, it will come with a full plate of duck meat and rice will be served separately. However, when you order for 1 person, it is usually served with the meat over the rice and heavily drenched with the gravy used to cook the duck.
Duck rice can be found in almost every hawker centre or coffeeshop and there are typically two methods to cook the duck, one is braised while the other is roast.
For Ah Di, it is the braised version which is cooked in gravy that is mainly made up of soy sauce. And because it is cooked in gravy, the gravy is key to the success of this dish. In the picture where we had all the things ordered, we actually asked for an extra bowl of gravy to dip the duck or just put onto the rice.
The duck meat was simply tender and the best thing is, it is boneless. Many stalls in Singapore sell duck rice but they rarely de-bone the meat for you, so while it look like you have quite a fair bit of meat served for your duck rice, essentially a big chunk of it is actually bones. And because of the way they cook the duck, there is totally no gamey taste. To do this, one need to know how to add herbs and light spices to remove the gamey taste.
So for people whom are afraid of that acquired taste, you need not worry. This meat is maximum tender with 0 gamey taste to it.
Kway Chap

Now this platter is called kway chap. It is like the added gravy to broad noodles. But today, I did not order this with broad noodles, but instead, I ordered it as it is because I already had the duck rice. So this becomes like a side dish.
For my friends not from the region, Kway Chap is essentially a platter of braised food comprising of pork, pork intestines, beancurd, fish cake, egg, etc. This dish not many people will order because many people don't take intestines. But for me, this is delicacy, smooth, silky and packed with flavour, giving the duck rice an additional dimension of not just eating meat.
The innards are well cleaned, so you need not worry that eating the innards will cause you to eat something unclean. It is well braised and the flavour fully infused into the ingredient. And because it has many different items on the platter, my wife is able to enjoy some of it.
But take note, do not eat this too often as it is very high in cholesterol, so eat in moderation.
Overall:
A nice little stall tucked away in a neighbourhood mall coffeeshop. A well worthy meal that will not burn a big hole in your wallet. Strong mastery by the guys whom prepared the duck to ensure that it is super tender and without the gamey taste and most importantly, no bones! Not just that, the ingredients are all well prepared and I just love to patronize them whenever I can during weekday lunch.
Do also note that, they will close upon selling their last duck, so do come early else you might miss out a nice plate of duck rice.
Closing
Thank you for coming by and reading my post. I am glad to be able to share this stall with my wife and also the community here. Great tasting food done with strong mastery of the preparation and braising of the ingredients. Talking about it makes me wanna go back to patronize them tomorrow.
See you in the next post!
