Hello all, hope all of you are doing fine and it's the weekend. Was having a nice lunch today with my wife and would like to share with you guys. One of my favourite food but just didn't had chance to capture photos to feature here and share the place/food.

The Place
Beach Road Scissors Cut Curry Rice
Address: 222 Upper Thomson Rd, Singapore 574354

There are multiple outlets available for this and the outlet that I visited today is one of the newer branches that had opened in recent years. The main outlet is opened at Jalan Besar in town and to dine there, you must be an expert in parking due to limited parking lots or head there via public transport. However, this newer outlet have more parking options nearby and the shop itself has a much cleaner interior.

Here's how the place looks like:

Dining spaces within the shop

Personally I like how the whole place is done up. Nice and spacious with a hint of retro style that resembles the main outlet. On the wall, there is the heritage of the shop being summarised for new customers to view and understand how everything started. The shop still follow how the main outlet operates, order the food from the counter where you can see the variety of food available. Every single food on display look super delicious. It is a very comfortable experience to be dining here so let's move on the food.

The Food
While you to order your food, you will hear the classic cling and clang of the scissors which the shop got its name from. Food such as chicken cutlets, pork chops are being cut into smaller slices that are bite sized and makes it easier for patrons to enjoy their food. My wife and I were spoiled for choices but ended up ordering the following items:

Chicken Cutlet
Prawn Paste Pork Belly
Braised Cabbage
Spicy Anchovies
Fried Egg with Black Sauce
2 plates of rice drenched with a generous serving of curry and braised sauce.

Picture of what we ordered

This picture of all the goodies we ordered was just waiting for us to savour them. And now, I will break down and review each dish one by one.

Chicken Cutlet

Chicken Cutlet

One of the items that we always order is the chicken cutlet. It is fried to perfection with good crisp on the outside and locked in juices on the inside. Every bite just make me wanna get a 2nd piece. To further boost the texture and fragrance, sesame seeds are sprinkled on the surface of the meat.

Prawn Paste Pork Belly

Prawn Paste Pork Belly

Most of the time that I visit this shop, I will order their pork chop but today, I spotted this dish, so I ended up ordering this instead. If you like prawn paste fried chicken wing, this is a similar version to that just that it has no bones and it is more tender as it is pork belly. Nice bite that is not tough, easy to eat and packed with flavour. No regrets changing from pork chop to this.

Braised Cabbage

Braised Cabbage

A simple dish but a key item for curry rice. It is nicely braised, soft and delicious when mixed in with the curry that comes the rice. I typically order over the ready made curry vegetables as I like the curry mixed from the rice than its own curry. Nothing fanciful but done to perfection.

Spicy Anchovies

Spicy Anchovies

This dish is actually not just anchovies, it also comes with peanut and onion as well. When all of these are being put together and stir fries with chilli and spices, the outcome is one savoury dish that fit so well to the combination. A mouthful of flavour and crunch that is really wowed me. Looks messy but do not be fooled as it taste really good.

Fried Egg with Black Sauce

Fried Egg with Black Sauce

Without the black sauce, the egg is just a normal fried sunny side up egg but when it has the black sauce, it adds a hint of sweet and savoury taste to it and elevate the taste significantly. Another dish that I will always order.

Rice

Rice with the curry/braised sauce

You must be thinking why did I have a segment to talk about the rice. Look at how messy it is with the sauce, but to be honest, this is one dish that needs to be messy. If this is prim and proper with nice plating, I am 100% certain it will not taste nice. However, when it looks like a big mess with the sauce, you can be assured it will be good. A tip from me, when being asked what sauce would you like on your rice, please tell the server, you want both the curry and braised sauce. Either of the sauce standalone is nice, but when they come together, it is a whole difference experience. So give it a try.

Overall:
A personal favourite and always brings me a hearty meal no matter what I order. The dishes that I order are just a small portion of what is available. There are also seafood such as prawns and squid available which are good as well. So far nothing had disappoint me so far from this shop and it also maintain the standard from the main outlet. A place that will make me happy after the meal and make me wanna return again. One of the best curry rice served in Singapore at an affordable price and nice place to dine in.

Closing
Thank you for coming by and reading my post. I am glad that the shop have multiple outlets and most importantly standards are aligned to the main shop. Hopefully the heritage and legacy continues and more get to enjoy this amazing food.

See you in the next post!
