Hello all, it's the weekend and I was out looking for nice food to eat. Near to the estate I am living, I am very blessed to be surrounded by loads of good food which are just a stone's throw away or at most a 5-10min drive away from my house. I wasn't aware of this place until my colleague shared with me and asked me to give it a try. Since I do like Duck meat and this place is of walking distance from my place, so why not?
The Place
HK Hennessy Roast Duck

Notes on this place: There is a multi storey carpark beside this place so no issue for parking and this place is easily identified as it is right by the roadside. HK Hennessy Roast Duck is situated within the food centre alongside many other food stalls that serve a variety of food ranging from Thai Mookata to Chinese Mixed Rice and Fishball Noodles.
As mentioned above, the stall is situated in the food centre and can be identified by the signboard with a duck head and with the words 九爷烧味. Otherwise, it can also be identified by the "hanged" ducks on display at the storefront.
The Food
This stall offers 3 kinds of meat: Roast Duck (their signature), Roast Chicken and BBQ Pork (often being referred to by locals as Char Siew)

Food Showcase:
From the looks of the set, it looked totally worth the money. Proportion was really good and I can guarantee you that you will not feel hungry after finishing the set.
Let's start with the duck meat which is the signature of the store. The duck is nicely roasted and there is a light crisp on the skin which make it a pleasure to savour. As most people know, Duck meat is a rather gamey meat, so the Danggui (Chinese Angelica Root), is actually a Chinese Herb, while it did bring in some herbal taste to the skin, it breaks away any form of gaminess that can remain on the duck. With the brand being called Hennessy, I am very certain there is a light hint of it that is being marinated onto the duck to further increase its taste. The alcohol is not overpowering but just a slight hint that tells you that it is in the meat. So in overall, the duck is really well prepared and given in generous proportion and the best thing is, they are served boneless. So you do not have to worry on biting into bones or even choking on them if you accidentally gobble down the meat.
Next we move on to the side dish which consist of Braised Egg, Braised Dried Beancurd and Pickles that are made from cucumber and carrot. The egg is normal and done proper, nothing special to call out and nothing bad to call out either. For the Braised Toufu, I suspect the one I got served is of a fresher batch and not braised long enough, so for this, if it was braised longer, it would have been a fine side dish. On the pickles, while it looked normal, it actually tasted quite nice, with a slight twang and also the right crunch. This is really good and can also help remove the oilyness after eating the duck meat to bring balance to the overall taste.
And lastly, the rice. It is well drenched with the sauce so the rice gets boosted in the savoury department and never tasted bland. The braise sauce is well done and not on the overly salty end which makes you wanna drink loads of water after eating it. One tip, in case the rice wasn't drizzle sufficiently by the braise sauce, you can always head back to the stall ask for a small bowl of the braise sauce which you can further drizzle onto your rice or even use it as a dipping sauce for the Braise Dried Beancurd or the duck meat itself.
Overall, a good meal that definitely will bring me back to patronise them again. This is a duck that is done with character and differs from other roast duck. A very complete meal that make you feel satisfied after you are done with the meal.
Closing
So glad that such a stall had opened in the neighbourhood and gives me and my wife even more options for lunch and dinner. Roast duck done to such standards do not come easy because there were many a times, I tasted cardboard-like roasted duck skin but this came with a light crisp which really drew my attention to savour it more. In the near future, I will also be sharing on a very nice Braised Duck Rice in another eating place near my home as well.
