Hello all, hope all of you are doing fine and it's been a while since I last posted in the community. I have managed to visit a nice restaurant that is situated at a shopping mall near my house. It has been there for a while but I visited them only recently. A few colleagues have been talking about this place and how good their food and service are. So I told myself, I need to experience it myself and brought my wife along.
The Place
Xiang Xiang Hunan Cuisine

This place serves Hunan cuisine which is also known as Xiang cuisine, which is why the restaurant is named this way. And for Hunan cuisines, it is one of the eight major cuisine for Chinese food which is renowned for its hot and spicy flavours and the strong aroma that comes with the spices that make up the dish.
Here's how the place looks like:
I like the whole ambience and cleanliness of the place. Spacious and comfortable, the staff were super friendly, ushering us to our seat and also sharing with us what are their signatures. Parking is easy to find at this location and the mall is right beside a MRT (mass rapid transit) station, so accessibility for this is super convenient.
Now let's get right on the food.
The Food
It was approximately 8pm when we arrived at the restaurant and we are famished. From what the servers recommended, we ordered the following:
- Sauerkraut Fish in Golden Soup -> kept warm using the mini stove
- 18 Seconds Stir Fry Angus Beef -> kept warm using the mini stove
- Spicy Sautéed Cabbage
- Giant Lemonade
Portions of each dish is very generous and I am really glad that they use the mini stoves to heat up the food while we eat. This will ensure flavours of each dish is sustained instead of becoming a poorer state when it turn cold.
So now let's dive into each of the items that we ordered.
Sauerkraut Fish in Golden Soup
This dish when it was served, I was like wow, look at that amount of fish that is in the soup. Most of the time when we order something similar elsewhere, we can barely find where the fish. There were way more vegetables than fish itself but pricing wise is similar to this place. This large amount of fish already scores a win for this dish. Next will be to savour the soup which we can see that it has Sauerkraut, peppercorn, lemon and other vegetables that makes up the soup and will give us a big array of flavour within the soup. Most other places the flavour for this dish will be very much on the spicy end and numbs our tastebuds, but for this place, it is the right amount of spice and the lemon added gives a hint of zesty taste within the soup, giving an additional dimension that other places do not have. A very nice and satisfying soup which my wife really enjoyed as well and she keep pestering me when can we return to the restaurant again as she misses the soup already.
18 Seconds Stir Fry Angus Beef
When I saw the dish in the menu, I was like is it really possible to stir fry this in 18 seconds? And when I put it into my mouth, it really melted in my mouth in the right doneness. Absolutely well executed dish and I am convinced that this dish should only be stir fried for 18 seconds and not any much longer as it will overcook the beef and makes it a chore to chew on the meat. The meat is so tender, juicy and well marinated. This is something that I will come back for more for sure.
Spicy Sautéed Cabbage
This is a common dish that is found in most Chinese restaurants. I would consider this dish as basic and if not done well, probably other dishes will be mediocre. And for this dish, the cabbage is nice done with the right amount of spices and having the slight crunch which is a sign of good control of the cooking before everything becomes a little too soggy. Simple, fuss free and done well.
Giant Lemonade
A value for money pick looking at the size of the cup. Good value and great tasting, refreshes your mouth and takes away the greasiness from the food consumed. A good pairing with the dishes that are being served here.
Overall:
I like the vibes at this place, the really friendly staff that is always ready to fulfil your request and give you the guidance that you need. I really think the owner put in a lot of effort to improve the service quality of their staff, which is rather lacking nowadays. Quality of each dish is really solid and accompanied by their warm and friendly staff, it certainly elevates the whole dining experience.
