Sorry, but your preference in altered texture and taste is just a subjective opinion. Pizza as we know it wouldn't be possible without tomatoes, which are also a new-world crop not even remotely indigenous to Italy, and thus no more authentic than pineapple. I just don't like pineapple, so I would avoid it anyway. You can argue about what food is authentic, but if it tastes good to you then enjoy it. I do like pizza generally and have eaten it all over the world, including in Italy. What else would I have in Naples?
