From food to clothes, outings, games, and more, we all have favourites. As much as we have different kinds of food, there will always be that one you won’t get tired of. You can eat it three times a day without getting tired of it. I have lots of favourite foods, though, but I would only talk about one here: it’s Spaghetti.

There’s only one method that I know, which we always used when I was living with our parents, and that’s to add all the ingredients together with the spaghetti and wait until it's done. Days, we would eat it like that, and when plantain showed up, we were grateful.
I never knew one of my aunts also loved spaghetti so much until I moved in with her. Every time, she would instruct me to prepare spaghetti for lunch, and one thing about her was that she never ate it alone; it was either with boiled egg or fried plantain or even both. I became so addicted to eating spaghetti that a week wouldn't pass without eating it.
I learnt the other method at her place, which was to boil the spaghetti, sieve it, then fry it. This method tastes better than the first one, and you’d love it.
The only time I miss eating spaghetti is when I travel home. The reason is that spaghetti is expensive and cooking for the whole house would be like spending much. And since we could go for something else like rice, we went for it, but whenever I am at home like that, I always wish to return to my place as soon as possible so I can eat it.
I travelled home in December and only spent a week, but not eating spaghetti made it look like I had eaten it for decades. Trust me, I prepared spaghetti and egg when I returned that same day. I missed eating it so much.
I enjoyed cooking spaghetti and frying plantain and egg. To me, this is a complete combo as far as the meal is concerned, but it doesn’t mean I don’t eat it without plantain because most times, I don’t get to buy it around here.
If you want to enjoy your spaghetti, I would recommend adding scent leaf to it. The first time I tried it, oh my! It tasted deliciously different, and it’s also a powerful ingredient, too. Apart from making the food tasty, there are benefits to using scent leaf in your food. They include:
- Boosting immunity
- Reducing inflammation and pain
- Fighting infections
- Managing blood sugar
- Improving digestion, etc
When I first moved to this place, I couldn’t find scent leaf until someone informed me where I could get it. Since then, I have, all the time, added scent leaf to my meals, especially spaghetti sauce.
Preparing spaghetti doesn’t consume a lot, as most times, I can add other sweet ingredients to make it spicier for me: ingredients like
- Seasoning (including spicy ones)
- Curry and thyme
- Carrot
- Smoked or frozen fish
- Scent leaves
- Spaghetti itself
- Groundnut oil
- Onions
- Pepper (tomatoes and scotch bonnets)
- Pepper soup sauce
- Green peas
