Oh boy, most people would read this and focus on the 1st part of the sentence instead of the latter part.

Sort:

i dont understand this... could you clarify?

catholics claim the pope is the vicar of christ. basically holding the office of God on earth. so we are to bow to him.

to that i say. a hard pass.

i mean no disrespect, but this hardly seems healthy to believe.

Someone could be evil, but because he has a title, I still must listen? Doesn't seem to be morally sound to me.

Again:

Premise 1) The pope is satan
Premise 2) We must Honor Christ
Conclusion 3) Therefor we must Bow our Heads to the pope, because he represents Christ.

I say this, as a man who was raised Catholic himself. But, I've never heard such remark being made. Normally I don't reply to these. I strongly believe in live and let live, but my curiosity got the best of me.

How does one square this circle?

Yeah, Catholics as a people, are wonderful human beings that I truly believe love God and want to serve Him.

I just think the tradition and pomp gets in the way. As for the claim that the meme states, I'll let artgirl explain it...Because yeah, the pope is just a dude. Who should never be worshipped. She will set things straight I hope :)

Yes indeed we do not worship the Pope at all for he's just human like us. But of course we offer him the highest respect being the vicar of Christ. Those who disrespect the Pope is like disrespecting Christ Himself.

Google what the word vicar means.

And then what the bible says about people that are 'honored' on the same level as God.

Eh... I just said it, honoring is not the same as worshipping. The Pope is not God at all.

Amen! But now let's see what the word vicar means..

Google spit this out:

A vicar (/ˈvɪkər/; Latin: vicarius) is a representative, deputy or substitute; anyone acting "in the person of" or agent for a superior.

I mean....You don't see that as an issue?

To square this circle we read on St. Catherine of Siena and her writings. After all, she is one of the Doctors of the Church. 😁 Let's pray in front of the Blessed Sacrament too and ask Him to help us understand why she said it.

This is why we have the internet. 😁 Get to know St. Catherine of Siena and her writings.

For context, a schismatic Catholic denomination have ordained bishops without permission or something. Thus there are many Catholic pages posting about obedience to the Pope.

Don't you think that's controversial though?

Yes it sounds controversial indeed especially for those who may need a deeper relationship with God.

I don't think that's the case. You don't need to be kn that “deep” relationship yet with God to see and know that it's controversial, because it is.
If you're willing, we can look intently into that...

Well if you've read my convo with jongolson under meno's comment you should know the answer now on why she said it. 😉

Can you please share me that convo where you said that? Thank you sis. 🙂

Just go to the main snap I posted where the image is and you will see all the comments including yours. :)

Well, I guess I have no choice but to do that. 🙂

For context, there's a Catholic denomination who went ahead with unauthorized episcopal consecrations. This is why many Catholic pages are posting abt this topic.

Even with context, when we sieve the statement, it's highly controversial and disturbing. What that meant was that, if by any case the pope is found to have something to do with Satan, we should still obey ans submit to him because he's the vicar of Christ. In whatever context, doesnt sound disturbing, and a call to the worship of the pope?

I know right? hahaha

Yeah, haha!

But actually jongolson uncovered the answer to why she said it, just read our convo under meno's comment. 😁

Gotta check it.
