These are the words pasted on the walls of police stations, but then, sometimes, it's not really the case.
Have you ever had issues that got the police involved? What's your perspective of the police in your country?
Police are most of the times nasty in many countries. Have you ever had any encounter with them?

They are ignorant to that. So long as they have a few thousand of naira in their pocket, they are fine

I grew up with some amount of respect for them, or more specifically, my dad cause he was once one of them.
But that doesn't blur out they fact that they can be bunch of irritants.

That "bail is free" is total bull shit. Rather than making bail free, they inflate bail price and threaten to put you in cell if you don't pay up

Huhm, well I don't know if to say I've had something to do with them though. About three years ago, I was going for a church program together with my friend. Immediately we highlighted from the tricycle, they parked behind us, since we don't even know, we crossed...
We crossed the road to the other side and they kicked again to Uno, cross us in front. Long story short, they searched the bags we are carrying and was disappointed at what they saw, tambourine, Bible, lipgloss, and the likes.

Wow seeing your post made me realise I have never been to the police station before.
But from what I've heard a lot of them are corrupt while only a few are serving the country genuinely.
I believe only professionalism and accountability can save the system.

"police is your friend" is actually a good slogan but from people's experience I don't think anyone believes in that slogan.
You build trust from your actions not just with words.
Omo, I think it depends on whether or not you have money. If you have money, police is your friend. If you don't have money, you're guilty until proven innocent.
Its a good thing that you have not been there before. I would not advice you to even do anything that will take you there. If you don't have money, then police is definitely not your friend.
Though I'll advice you to go to a police station to see how life is over there (not as a convict or something, but as a tourist). Buy gifts for the people there (mostly food. You'll have to taste it first sha),
