Definitely. Someone powerful can say the same thing as someone without influence, but people will react completely differently.

True, but I also think genuine respect exists. There are people you respect regardless of their wealth or position.

Absolutely. Usually because of their character, principles or the way they've treated people over time.

And sometimes those are people with no impressive title at all.

Exactly. A parent, teacher, friend or even a stranger can earn more genuine respect than someone sitting in a powerful position.

But I won't lie, status does command a certain level of attention.

Attention, yes. But do you think attention and respect are actually the same thing?

No. Someone can command attention because they're powerful while nobody genuinely respects them.
