On a day like this, with the sun working hard and the weather being scorching hot, life at my home feels just as stifling. Especially lately, I've been busy caring for two patients in the adjacent house. The first is my mother-in-law, whom I've cared for for many years; she's bedridden and requires close attention. The other is my aunt (my mother-in-law's sister), who recently fell ill. Although she can still manage some things herself, she still needs care. It's become a situation where I'm a runner and a distant observer, constantly walking back and forth between the two houses, leaving me feeling quite overwhelmed. But despite the exhaustion, I'm happy to do whatever I can to help.
Birthday Morning Surprise from Trang
The heartwarming story began early yesterday morning, which happened to be my husband's birthday. We woke up to a phone call with birthday wishes from his sister, followed by a surprise: a huge breakfast she had gone out to buy for us. This morning's menu is something you absolutely must try if you're in Trang! The table was filled with various dim sum dishes – pork dumplings, shrimp dumplings, fish tofu – all steamed hot and served with Trang's signature sour dipping sauce. It was complemented by delicious Trang-style grilled pork and some light snacks. A simple breakfast, but filled with love, before starting a busy day.
Garden and Duck/Chicken Care Task Before Tackling the Big Project
After taking care of the housework and looking after my mother-in-law and the pets near the temple, I rushed into the garden to feed the ducks and chickens. I had to be especially quick today because I had an important appointment with my aunt-in-law. We agreed to go shopping for a fan and an air conditioner for my aunt who is ill, as the weather has been unbearably hot, causing her to become irritable and uncomfortable. My aunt's spacious living room has been partitioned off in preparation for installing the air conditioner so she can rest comfortably.
Opening the Door to a New World at Thai Watsadu
We went as a group of five, with my husband acting as the driver and our air conditioner expert. The moment I stepped through the doors of Thai Watsadu, I felt like I had traveled from hell to heaven. The scorching heat outside vanished instantly, replaced by a refreshing coolness that made me understand why sick people need air conditioning so much – the cool air truly helps to calm the mind.
We headed straight to the electrical appliance section. Since I'd bought several air conditioners here before, I was quite familiar with the area. My husband carefully compared specifications while I took pictures of the atmosphere and asked the staff about installation and payment. Finally, we got a good quality air conditioner for a little over ten thousand baht, along with some light bulbs and a chair for additional use.
Recharging before heading back, and the heart of "caregiver"
Before heading back, we stopped at a small coffee shop in front of the mall to recharge. I ordered a strong coffee, lemon tea, and iced milk, along with some snacks to eat in the car. Everyone helped load the belongings into the car with smiles on their faces. It was a very lovely sight to see the grandchildren and relatives working together for the elderly people we love.
Life might seem complicated these days, juggling the role of caring for a bedridden patient and the overwhelming responsibilities outside the home. Sometimes I might not post on social media regularly, but I believe that the power of mutual support among family members is what will help us get through this hectic summer.
