It has been warm in eastern Germany, where I live. Next week the temperature is supposed to drop, so today I had breakfast on my balcony while enjoying the spring sunshine. I tried a combination of camembert and pink pepper that a baker friend of mine from my Berlin days had posted on Instagram. Lettuce was from the balcony. It's nice to be able to produce what I eat even a little amount.
Currently the harvest is mainly lettuce and other leafy greens. The lettuce is very helpful because it consistently gives us the leaves. This year I planted 12 plants, and for a family of three like ours, 20 plants in the spring and summer will be able to cover our salad needs in addition to sandwiches.
In addition to lettuce, we are experimenting this season with Asian leafy greens such as red mustered, chrysanthemum, bok choy, and arugula and spinach in pots. I am harvesting from the outer leaves same as the lettuce.
The tulip season on the balcony is over, so I went to see cut flowers for home and bought potted Ranunculus because they were about the same price as cut flowers. I took two flowers for inside and planted the rest on the balcony. It was a good idea.
I also planted parsley. This is because the pot was on sale at a local supermarket for 1 euro for a weekend sellout. I remember I rescued a pot of sage like this last year.
I have sown unusual leaf seeds that I can't buy at stores, such as ice kraut, oyster plants, okahijiki etc. Now I'm waiting for them to germinate.
Next week the cold days come back. We are going to a barbecue at a friend's garden this afternoon. I bring Kiwi plants I bought for a community garden I maintained last year. I couldn't be brave enough to plant them there since theft and vandalism happened. Kindly my friend gives spaces for them in her garden. They are ready to travel in my backpack on my bike 🥝

私が住んでいるドイツ東部では、暖かい日が続いています。来週は気温が下がるようで、今日は春の日差しを楽しみながらバルコニーで朝ごはんを食べました。ベルリン時代のパン屋さんの友人がインスタグラムにアップしていた、カマンベールとピンクペッパーの組み合わせを試してみました。ピンクペッパーは他の胡椒とはまったく違うフルーティーな味わいで、大好きなスパイスです。レタスはバルコニーから。自分の食べるものを少しでも作れるっていいですね。
端境期で収穫は相変わらずレタスを中心とした葉物です。レタスはコンスタントに葉っぱを分けてくれるのでとても助かっています。今年は12株植えてみて、うちのような3人家族だと、春夏なら20株もあれば、サンドイッチに加えて、サラダ需要もまかなえそうです。
レタスに加えて、アジア系の葉物（春菊、赤リアスカラシナ、青梗菜）、ルッコラ、ほうれん草は、今シーズンは実験的にポットに植えてみています。まびきつつ、レタスのように外葉から収穫しています。
バルコニーのチューリップのシーズンが終わってしまい、家の中に飾る切り花を探しに行って、ラナンキュロスの鉢植えと切り花が同じくらいの値段だったので鉢植えを買ってきました。家の中用に2本花をもらって、残りはバルコニーに植えました。
パセリも新しく植えました。というのも、近所のスーパーで週末売りきりで1鉢1ユーロで売られていたのです。去年もこんな感じでセージを救出してきたのが懐かしいです。
その他、アイスクラウト、オイスタープランツ、オカヒジキなど、お店では買えない珍しい葉物の種をまいて発芽を待っています。
来週はまた寒い日が戻ってきます。これから友人の庭でバーベキューです。コミュニティガーデンに植えようと思っていたら、盗難や破壊行為が発生して植えずにいられたキーウィのカップルを引き受けてくれるとのことで、キーウィをしょって自転車に乗って行ってきます。
