A Budget-Friendly Lunch with Workmates: Trying Pastil

Hello Everyone!

Today, instead of going home for lunch, I decided to eat out with my workmates. Usually, I prefer going home to eat, but that day I wanted to try something different. My curiosity was sparked by something they had been eating recently called pastil. For the past few days, I kept hearing them talk about how good it was and how much they enjoyed it, so eventually, I decided to see what the hype was all about. Another big reason that convinced me was the price—it was surprisingly cheap, costing only around 10 pesos per piece.

When I finally got my hands on it, the first thing that came to my mind was onigiri from Japan. The shape and size were quite similar, but instead of being wrapped in seaweed, the pastil was wrapped in a banana leaf, which already gave it a local and traditional feel. Inside, there was a serving of rice with a small portion of shredded meat or fish. It looked simple, but also neat and well-prepared.

Since I had a feeling that one piece wouldn’t be enough, I bought two pastil. After eating them, I realized that I was right—I still didn’t feel completely full. The portion is quite small, especially if you have a big appetite. However, despite that, I still think pastil is a great option, especially for people who are on a tight budget. It’s affordable, filling enough to get you through the afternoon, and very convenient if you’re in a rush.

Overall, my first experience with pastil was enjoyable. It may not be a heavy meal, but it’s tasty, practical, and perfect for a quick lunch with friends. Sometimes, simple food like this makes lunch breaks more interesting.
