Ginisang Bulaklak ng Kalabasa (Squash Flower) Dahon ng Saluyot (Jute) with fried Galungong Fish (1).gif

Hello! How are you? This week is the start of Semana Santa. Today is the day when eating meat is not recommended, as I remember, until Friday. So, this is the perfect time to eat veggies and fish. This Ginisang gulay is the perfect food to eat. What veggies and fish do you eat during Semana Santa?

If you're having a hard time with your digestive system, this is the perfect food for you. Whenever I'm having a hard time during restroom time, this is my go-to eat.

Ingredients I Used and Prepping:

  • Cooking Oil
  • Galic
  • Red Onion
  • Ginger
  • Fish Sauce
  • Dahon ng Saluyot (Jute)
  • Bulaklak ng Kalabasa (Flower of Squash)

And then I added the aromatics in like garlic, red onion, and ginger. I let it sauté for about a minute.

Next, I added a tablespoon of Fish Sauce.

Next is I added all the veggies in and I added 1 1/2 cups of water.

I like to add a seasoning of about a teaspoon.

Next is I added about half a teaspoon of ground pepper.

Now everything is added, I then close the lid and I let it cook for about 5 minutes or until the sauce turns thick.

After that, I started to fry the fish. What I do is I season it with fish sauce and seasoning. I added enough cooking oil to cook it, and then fried it until crispy.

Yum!😋 I love Saluyot. I learned to eat veggies because my father was born in Ilocos Norte. Ilocanos love to eat all kinds of vegetables, that's why they live longer.💖

Galunggong is also called a "poor man's fish," but not nowadays because that fish is as expensive as first-class fish like Talakitok, Maya-Maya, and other fish that are only caught in the open sea.💖 I like galunggong when it is deep-fried or Tostado.🌷

Thanks for sharing your cooking prowess and the viands that I'm sure are flavorful.

Thank you. Have a meaningful Holy Week.🌷🕊️

Another favorite homecooked combo-meal of mine. This is really appetizing and nostalgic for me. My sister-in-law used to cook this at home but we don't live together anymore, this just reminds me of her. Yes, this also perfect for the holy week especially on Friday. I haven't had dinner yet so this one makes me hungry.

That is true it is so nostalgic my grandma used to cook it for us. Ask her again to cook you this 😄
That is true it is perfect for holy week.

I moved to another city, we don't live together anymore...
Yes, good menu for tomorrow but without rice to avoid overeating 😀🙂

Oh, yes, we're eating veggies and fish more, may dried fish din, and eggs haha. But your veggie recipes is really healthy ha. Then with GG pa, winner ang tanghalian kapag ganito ulam. Tas toyomansi with chili for the GG, kuuu 🤤🤤✨

Same and I feel good because of that 😁 oo mas magandang i pair ng pritong isdaa para mag compliment. Totoo yan ayan yung sawsawan ko kanina 😂😂

The stir-fried vegetables and fried fish look delicious.👍

This type of fish looks similar to what we have here. it's a saltwater fish we call Lung fish , and it tastes amazing when fried.

Thank you 😊

That fish reminds me of Hito we grill it and dip it in fish sauce

Yeah! It is a must to follow this and we are doing this since childhood a way of self control, fasting, and following the church doctrine and tradition.

That is true, when I was still young I get confused why we are not allowed to eat meat and but now I am grown now I understand 😄

I only heard today that squash flowers can be eaten, wow 😲 that surprise me because I always pick them and just play with it.

Yes you can eat it. Try it. Hahaha I know what you mean I used to see someone tuck it behind their ears. 😁

I haven't tried eating this bulaklak ng kalabasa, but the food looks delicious. Thanks for sharing 😍

You should try it, it taste nothing 🤣 yes, it taste good and healthy at the same time. You're welcome 😁

Ooh! I hope I can find squash flowers here, so I can try it 😊

Normally, during Semana Santa we prefer fish and vegetables and "lagutmon" to eat. We sometimes prepare "kakanin" such as biko, benignit, etc. while some members of the family practice abstinence especially on Good Friday. The jute and flower of squash is just a wow!

Home-cooked meals are much better than eating out. They're cheap and healthy. Both of these dishes are definitely a good combination, especially the fried fish. I had this yesterday and dipped it in suka with sili.

Thanks for posting in the ASEAN Hive Community.
