Tinolang Manok (Chicken) With Sayote and Malunggay Leaves

$1

Hello, how are you? Even though it is hot here in the Philippines, we still drink hot coffee, and it is the same as eating hot soup, like Tinolang Manok. When the weather is cold, we usually eat this as comfort food, and we enjoy eating it with rice, too.

You can add vermicelli too, but I prefer not. If I leave it too long, all the soup will get absorbed by the vermicelli. So whenever we all one we always eat as soon as possible.

I know some of you add papaya to the tinola, which they say is the classic one to add to the tinola, but I prefer sayote. Do you prefer sayote or papaya, or neither of the above?

Ingredients I Used And Prepping:

0.JPG

01.JPG

  • 1 Tbsp Cooking Oil
  • 1 Kilo Chicken Wings
  • 7 Cloves of Garlic
  • 1 Red Onion
  • 2 Tbsp Fish Sauce
  • 1 Chicken Broth Cube
  • 1 Tsp Ground Pepper
  • 6 Cups of Hot Water
  • 1 Sayote
  • 1 Cup of Malunggay Leaves

Time to Cook Tinolang Manok:

In a hot pot, I added 1 tbsp of cooking oil.

I added the chicken and cooked it for about 5 minutes or until some parts of it turned brown or crispy.

This is what it looks like when the side of the chicken turns crispy.

After that, I saute the garlic, red onion, and ginger until the aroma comes out.

10.JPG

I added about 2 tbsp of Fish Sauce and let the chicken absorb the flavor of the fish sauce.

12.JPG

I added 1 chicken Broth Cube into the chicken.

After that, I added 1 tsp of ground pepper.

To make the cooking easier, I used boiling water from the kettle to make the soup of chicken soup. I used about 6 cups of water, or what I do is I pour water over the chicken.

17.JPG

18.JPG

Now it is time to close the lid, and I let the chicken cook about 20-30 minutes on medium to low heat. I like the chicken that melts in the mouth when I eat it.

Now I am going to add the sayote.

And let it cook for about 7 minutes or until soft.

25.JPG

26.JPG

One minute before the timer, I added the malunggay leaves.

27.JPG

28.JPG

Let it cook for 1 minute.

Serve it before it goes cold. Happy Eating, Everybody!

Tinola ng manok is my all-time favorite dish. It is healthy and delicious, especially with malunggay. I enjoy it with red rice or corn rice alongside tuyo.

Same! That is true! Totoo yan kung wala kaming sayote dahon ng malunggay ang nilalagay ko. :D

Ang sarap kaya pag malunggay. Very healthy.

Totoo yan :D

This soup is perfect for cold, rainy afternoons. It has been my favorite since then. You can also use papaya instead of sayote, yet both are truly delicious.

That is true. Yes my mom rarely buy papaya as a veggie for tinola she like sayote more 😅😁

This is one of my favorites! saraap haha with tanglad and the moringa is not jus economical but very beneficial.

I never tried adding tanglad to tinolang manok. That is true!

Try it, it tastes good.

Just had my dinner with chicken (on spicy barbeque sauce) but this one still makes me want a serving of hot chicken soup like this. Oh, this is undeniably irresistible. This must be my next menu tomorrow. Amazingly, I can smell this dish from afar😍😇

Chicken in bbq sauce is good too, let me trade my tinola to your chicken bbq 😁

This is really yummy and good to eat during rainy day's, this is something good also to a sick person like having fever or cold.

A very tasty and nutritious soup. Malunggay tastes very good. Some elderly people in our area drink dry Malunggay instead of green tea.

Thank you! Yeah it is more healthier than the green tea.

Lutong bahay hits different! That’s comfort in a bowl. Simple and healthy. Makes you wanna grab a bowl of rice and just sabaw pa more! 😋

That is true lutong bahay is always the best. 😄 kaya nga mapapaextra rice ka nalang talaga.

Hehe, it’s definitely extra rice pa more!😅

That was really delicious 😍 I'm thinking of cooking my chicken here hahaha
