Growing Healthy Minds and Happy Hearts: Celebrating Nutrition Month 2026 at Buhawen Elementary School

Yesterday was another special day at Buhawen Elementary School as we celebrated one of the year’s most anticipated events: Nutrition Month 2026. The day was full of smiles, creativity, learning, and tasty, healthy meals that reminded us how important good nutrition is for our children.

This year’s Nutrition Month theme, "Nutrisyon at Kalikasan, Ating Pangalagaan!", highlights the strong connection between good nutrition and caring for the environment. It reminds us that healthy bodies begin with healthy food, and a healthy environment provides us with fresh, safe, and lasting food sources. The theme encourages everyone, especially our students, to enjoy local fruits and vegetables, waste less food, care for nature, and build habits that support both their health and the environment. By teaching children to value healthy food and protect nature, we help them become responsible people who understand that caring for nature is also caring for their future.

At Buhawen Elementary School, many of our students are from the indigenous Aeta community, which made this celebration even more meaningful. We understand that every nutrition lesson can have a lasting impact on their health, learning, and future. It is our responsibility to encourage them to value healthy eating, especially fresh vegetables and natural foods that are available in their own community.

Rather than holding big competitions, our school chose classroom activities so every student could join in without feeling pressured. This gave each child a chance to be creative while learning important lessons about healthy living and caring for the environment.

In our classroom, our young learners eagerly joined a Drawing Contest, creating colorful pictures of fruits, vegetables, gardens, trees, healthy meals, and families enjoying good food together. Their drawings showed the importance of eating healthy and protecting the environment that provides these gifts. As they carefully colored their pictures, this fun activity helped them recognize nutritious foods and understand how important nature is in providing them.

Our students also showed their creativity in the Slogan Making Contest, creating inspiring messages that encouraged everyone to eat healthy foods, grow vegetables, avoid wasting food, and care for the environment. Their simple but meaningful slogans proved that even young children can support healthy living and help protect nature. After that, we had the Pagbigkas ng Tula (Poetry Recitation). Through their poems, the students expressed thanks for nature’s blessings and highlighted that protecting the environment helps make sure everyone has healthy food. Their confident and heartfelt performances made the activity truly memorable.

A highlight of our Nutrition Month celebration was the vegetable cooking and eating activity. Together, we made simple and healthy vegetable dishes using fresh, local ingredients. This activity helped our students appreciate how nature provides the vegetables that nourish us. Watching them happily prepare, taste, and enjoy the food reminded us that healthy eating can begin with what we have in our own community.

The celebration truly reflected this year’s theme, reminding us all that when we care for nature, nature cares for us. Every drawing, poem, slogan, and shared meal became a meaningful lesson that healthy people and a healthy environment go together.
