A complicated day. We woke up at the Gili with a small boat and were transported to the island of Lombok. Here with a small van we reached in two hours what are called the 'other Gili'. Three other small islands overlooking a blue sea. The trip would have been great for a pennichel, but the coasts they were crossing looked like they came out of a postcard. Impossible not to admire them. Wide sandy beaches with palm trees and ocean waves. Beautiful.
Arriving in front of the other Gili, a new boat took us to the islands for a first stop of snorkelling to see the fish. In the crossing we saw some fishermen's houses, on floating rafts.
The sea is rich in life and colourful fish. Our guide would lure them close with bread. I didn't like this thing very much because I found it a little forced.
However the seabed was magnificent, corals everywhere and we also saw a starfish. These days have reminded me of how much I liked snorkelling and how poorly trained I am.
After the bath we relaxed and dried and then moved to the island next door for lunch.
Here tables had been prepared on the shore and we had lunch with our feet on the sand and the view of the blue sea. Beautiful.
But it's also the time when things got worse. The wind rose and with it sand that went into my left eye. It started to bore me and it never passed until we decided to abandon our other plans to take me to the hospital.
We found a transfer on purpose, we went to the international hospital, here they visited me and diagnosed me with conjunctivitis, provided with eye drops and released. All this in maybe an hour. With everyone who was smiling and kind and the bill that was around 18 euros. Stuff that you forget in Italy.
I was impressed by how they all spoke English well and were kind and smiling. I felt comfortable.
Unfortunately this misadventure made us skip the sunset on the island and I'm very sorry, because it seems to have been magnificent.
Luckily the eye drops seem to work. I took the first drop and I feel better, I can keep my eye open and do almost everything normally.
Una giornata complicata. Ci siamo svegliati alle Gili con una piccola barca ci siamo fatti trasportare all’isola di Lombok. Qui con un piccolo van abbiamo raggiunto in due ore quelle che vengono chiamate le “altre Gili”. Altre tre piccole isole affacciate su un mare azzurro. La trasferta sarebbe stata ottima per una pennichella, ma le coste che stavano attraversando sembravano uscite da una cartolina. Impossibile non ammirarle. Larghe spiagge di sabbia con palme e le onde dell’oceano. Bellissimo.
Arrivate davanti alle altre Gili, una nuova barchetta ci ha portato verso le isole per una prima tappa di snorkeling a vedere i pesci. Nella traversata abbiamo visto alcune case dei pescatori, su zattere galleggianti.
Il mare è ricco di vita e pesci colorati. La nostra guida li attirava vicino con del pane. Questa cosa non mi è piaciuta molto perché l’ho trovata un po’ forzata.
Tuttavia il fondale era magnifico, coralli ovunque e abbiamo visto anche una stella marina. Questi giorni mi hanno fatto ricordare quanto mi piacesse lo snorkeling e quanto sia anche poco allenato di fiato.
Dopo il bagno ci siamo rilassati e asciugati per poi passare all’isola a fianco per il pranzo.
Qui dei tavoli erano stati preparati sul bagnasciuga e abbiamo pranzato con i piedi sulla sabbia e la vista sul mare azzurro. Bellissimo.
Ma è anche il momento in cui le cose sono peggiorate. Si è alzato il vento e con esso della sabbia che mi è andata nell’ occhio sinistro. Ha iniziato a darmi noia e non è più passato fino a che non abbiamo deciso di abbandonare i nostri altri piani per portarmi in ospedale.
Abbiamo trovato un transfer apposta, siamo andati all’ospedale internazionale, qui mi hanno visitato e diagnosticato una congiuntivite, fornito dei colliri e liberato. Tutto questo in forse un’ora. Con tutti che erano sorridenti e gentili e il conto che è stato di circa 18 euro. Roba che in Italia te la scordi.
Sono rimasto colpito di come parlassero tutti bene l’inglese e fossero gentili e sorridenti. Mi sono sentito a mio agio.
Purtroppo questa disavventura ci ha fatto saltare il tramonto sull’isola e mi dispiace molto, perché sembra sia stato magnifico.
Fortuna che il collirio sembra funzionare. Ho preso la prima goccia e mi sento meglio, riesco ad tenere aperto l’occhio e fare quasi tutto normalmente.
