I am so blessed to be living in a neighbourhood that is surrounded by amazing amenities that had been properly thought of and bringing so much convenience to the residents in this area. And in the most recent National Day Rally speech given by our prime minister, it is said that my area will be seeing more development which I really think is an amazing thing and I am really looking forward to these new development.
Food is something that is easily accessible by foot or if we are expecting to carry heavy loads, a short drive will bring us to nearby supermarkets to stock up on the essentials required at home from groceries to toiletries and many more.
Some time back I shared on a Chinese Supermarket in a nearby mall being refreshed and upon reopening, it become a supermarket that contained a place for food. And today as I visited Sembawang Shopping Centre, a former supermarket also renovated, revamped and reopened with a food hall within the supermarket.
In terms of variety, because this is a locally owner enterprise, there are more Singaporean food choices as compared to the previous one which only had Chinese food. So this becomes a new food place that I can visit. On top of that, there is actually a pub here that serve alcoholic beverages. The only thing that I thought could have been better would be the option to buy ingredients directly from the supermarket and get someone to cook on the spot (this is available at another outlet in another mall that is located much further south from my area).
And because this is a nice place that had been done up, would like to give a small sharing on what I ate there and how the place look like.
Venue: Sembawang Shopping Centre, 604 Sembawang Rd, #B1-25, Singapore 758459
What my wife and I decided to eat is Kokoro Kiosuku which serves Japanese ramen.
The stall is run by 2 young chap, one serving an taking order while the other prepares the ramen. To be honest, the decor for this food court is really very nicely done up and it really felt like I am dining in a very decent restaurant.
The seating area is also nicely spaced out with quality furniture used and it also exudes some form of retro vibes to it. I think it is really a good idea to have such a setup in a supermarket since it can offer a place for elderly or people accompanying their family members to come for shopping to have some beverage or eat some food before heading back after grocery shopping.
Now to the food, 2 simple bowl of Chashu ramen. I like how the guy cooking put in loads of effort to ensure that the food is being nicely arranged in a proper manner than just dumping ingredients all around. Great presentation and I like how each ingredient is being placed in a certain part of the bowl.
If we look closely at the Chashu, it has a nice charr to it and when you bite it, it is very flavourful and taste really good (though I hope they can give me 3 slices instead of 2). The Chashu is really tender as well as it almost melt in your mouth without needing additional chewing.
The egg is really well done, my wife loves it. The egg is cook to perfection, creating an additional dimension to the ramen. And we are given a full egg instead of some other places that only give us half an egg.
In terms of the broth, it is not overly powering but definitely simmered over long hours to have that level of umami. Might not be as good as Ippudo but for a stall located in the heartlands, I have to say, this is really good for the price we pay for it.
A hearty bowl of ramen that make us want to go back for more. And for sure I will be back to get my groceries and have a bowl of this ramen.
Closing
The concept of integration of supermarket and food court has so many benefits and offers many variety of food to those whom partronise. Hoping they will be able to setup a stall to take in direct ingredients from the supermarket and fry up a few nice dishes, that would be awesome!
Thank you for coming by and have a great day!
