Hello everyone 👋
It has been a super long time since we have last posted! Although we’ve been MIA for a long while, our adventures have not stopped!
This time we would like to introduce a pretty nice place we’ve visited recently. I had cravings for oysters after constantly thinking about our last trip to Japan and having these massive oysters that were bigger than the size of my palm. At the same time, we have always had the plan of visiting an oyster farm except we never got the chance to do it. This one week, we decided to drop everything and go for it.
Our adventures took us to the Hawkesbury River Oyster Farm in Mooney Mooney located in New South Wales, Australia. It is less than an hour drive from Sydney central.

It was a lovely, sunny day and the place had quite a lot of visitors. It was our first time visiting so having quite a few people around made it promising. Apparently it’s a popular spot for tourists to visit and to have a tour around the oyster farm. This place is also dog friendly!
They have a guided tour in which is to be booked in advance. The tour includes a boat ride and champagne on arrival. We did not go through with the tour as we had our little one with us.
There is a shed located at the farm that sold oysters, fresh prawns, grazing platters, lobster and various seafoods, soups and salads. It sits by the water with outdoor and some open and sheltered seating which overlooks the oyster farm and river.

When it came to ordering food, we saw the menu prior to the trip and had in mind what we wanted. Regretfully, they did not have any lobster and some other seafood became unavailable. We became indecisive and ended up over ordering on other things.

We ordered the seafood chowder. This was packed with fresh seafood and it was delicious. The serving was big as well!

This was the chilli mussels. Slightly disappointing as we were looking forward to something more chilli and flavourful.

Finally, the oysters. They were really fresh, juicy and the natural sweetness really stood out.
I think if we have the chance to visit again, we’d plan a little better so we can stay longer and tour the place more. Also, we’d book in advance to reserve the large oysters… did not know that we had to call and reserve these in advanced! Nevertheless, we really enjoyed the drive and the food!
If you are ever in Sydney and want to escape the bustling, concrete city to somewhere not too far, this would be a place we recommend.
Let us know in the comments if you’re a fan of fresh oysters!
