Mother and father play a very important role in the growing age of kids. Parenthood is not an easy task its challenging experience as well as rewarding too. The childhood time when we get more close to the family and as a parents we learn may things. This is a time of happiness, joy and this give us the greatest meaning in life. For a mother the most difficult and challenging time is during her pregnancy. During those period the women under goes many changes in their body and they gone through the mantel and physical stress. This is most difficult, challenging and they feel mostly discomfort during those none months. I still remember during the pregnancy of my wife she mostly feel restless, and complain about the headache, pain in the lower abdominal. Some time she has weird cravings also. This is one part of the story and the another journey starts after the birth of baby i.e. the journey of parenting and motherhood.

Motherhood is more challenging for a working women. This is the time to relax and give time to child but the working pressure may take both time and relax. In most of the countries the working women has the facility of take maternity benefits. This is the best way to support their maternal duties. In India the Maternity Benefit Act 1961 provides maternity benefits in the form of maternity leave for all women employees. The maternity leave are the paid leave which are provided to all working women, during the pregnancy. This is to ensure the overall well being of the new born child and the mother. Initially the 12 week leaves were provided but same was increased to the 26 week by amendment to the Act in 2017. The leave may be taken before deliver also. A maximum 8 week leave may be taken before delivery and rest can be token after the delivery.

Unfortunately their is not mandatory paternity leave provision for the persons working in the private sector employees in India, but some companies has the provision for same. But for the Government sector the employees are eligible for the the 15 days of paternity leave within six months of their child's birth or adoption. But still their are some pre-requisites. we will no go into them. I am a government employee so I am fortunately eligible for the same, but I feel bad for those how does not have the facility.

I completely understand the Maternity leaves are very essential and important for the working women but I also think that the paternity leaves are not as much important as Maternity leave but still they are important. The very first reason is the support to the family. In today world most of us live in nuclear families and both the mother and father are the base of the family. In such case the mother and new born child need the care and their is no other then the husband their to take care of both of them. In past people use to live in joint family and other members of the family were always there to take care of the mother and the new born baby.
Imagine a case of a nuclear family where the husband works full day and when come back home he again do all home chores. He already gone through the stressful office work and when comin back he again has no other choice other then finish all pending home work.
For man also this is the time to spend time with new born baby and grow their bond. Its time when man also do all necessary work for kids including cleaning, baby bath and preparing the food also.

Form my personal experience the 15 days are very less specially for the couples living away form their native place because of the work. You will not realize how fast those 15 days passed. And when you come back from your native place its another challenge to get adjusted again as the place is also new for new born baby. After the birth of my first kid I purposefully spare four to five days form my Paternity leave so that I can spend time with family after coming back from my native place. In my opinion their should be an option for the male employees to take leave with recused salary if they wan leave more then the Paternity leave. In this case its all up to the employees if they want to be at home if needed or it is manageable for the family.
