Last week I was invited for some dinner at a nice restaurant called obendrüber and I thought I would take some photos of my journey and small exploration of the town when I was there.
I was quite happy to be invited for some dinner as I had not visited this one before and was keen to see what it was like. However, as the day neared, we started getting a heat wave and it was brutal warm and staying cool was my top priority!
The weather this year has been on and off good, so it was surprising to get such a hot day suddenly. The restaurant is above a fancy department store called Henschel. They have air conditioning, which was a good thing.
The evening entrance doesn't look that fancy from this angle, but the restaurant is on the roof and has lovely views of the town and market square Marktplatz where there are many restaurants and a popular pub. It is a popular hangout near the university where people meet for food, coffee and to chat with friends.
The department store is quite large and the building is quite fancy from this side. In the top right you can see the roof where the restaurant is.
Inside the department store it was very cool with the air conditioning and had many fancy areas with expensive things to buy.
After the meal, I explored around more and saw this huge ferris wheel. It didnt look in operation right then or particularly safe! I am not a huge fan of these ferris wheels. The largest I have been on was in Italy and it was huge and scary if you don't like heights.
In this market square they also do lots of markets including the christmas market. However, it is too small and the market weaves its way around the town.
In the summer though it is popular for food and drinking beer in the pub that was very full when I walked past it.
They have traditional german beer available and the great thing is they have table service which is always good in my book!
There was also some culture to view with this mueseum in this grand building. At least I think it was a mueseum.
Exploring further around the town I wandered a very nice shopping street with some restaurants and cafes with outdoor areas. Here there are a couple of Italian restaurants where people were enjoying pizza that looked very tasty! After my meal though, I was quite good, but it was a consideration for the future.
Approaching the point of my extraction, I passed the theatre which is a modern type white building with a huge park in front where lots of young people hang out on warm days like today. I was surprised it was not so full but perhaps it was early still.
Finally I passed upon the impressive and large Ludwigskirche Ludwigs Church which has a huge dome and is a great sight to behold. Sadly it was closed on this occassion and I couldn't go in and check out the inside which is apparently equally as impressive.
Thanks for reading.
