My 13-Move Blitz Game

White to move and mate in 2

I've been playing badly lately and lost a lot of games on blunders. My rating also plunged to 1800+ from close to 2000. The games are fun though and I will just keep playing until I get my groove back. Here's one miniature game I managed not to fumble. It didn't start well and I felt I was on the way to another loss but my opponent got careless.

The game started with 1. d4 Nf6 { A45 Indian Defense } 2. Bf4 e6 3. e3 Be7 4. Nf3 b6 5. Nbd2 Bb7 6. Bd3 h6 7. c3 g5

I felt that Black already has the initiative here. He's got an attack on my Kingside with his light squared Bishop trained on g2. After 8. Bg3 he can continue with 8...g4 9. Nh4 Rg8 threatening to win my Knight after 10....Nh7. I can counter the threat with 10. h3 but White's position will be ugly.

My opponent didn't see that plan though. 8. Bg3 Nh5 Black missed his chance. Better was g4 as I mentioned above.

The game continued 9. O-O Nxg3 10. hxg3 f5? Black was too aggressive to attack my King side and neglected to protect his own King.

It should be easy for White to find the right moves. 11. Ne5 d6? hastens his demise. 11....0-0 12. Qh5 looks grim but it's Black's best chance. Now the position above is reached. White to mate in two.

The solution was: 12. Qh5+ Kf8 13. Qf7# { White wins by checkmate. } 1-0
