Hello, my dear Hive Friends, most especially my co-Filipino bloggers! šŸ’– I’m excited to share a little story today, one that blends food, kindness, and nostalgia. Cooking has always been close to my heart, and this afternoon’s recipe brought back memories of my younger days in our family’s carinderia.

Earlier this week, my kind neighbor gave me a bundle of fresh winged beans. I tucked them inside my refrigerator and almost forgot—until this morning, when I spotted them waiting for me. Coincidentally, the rolling store passed by, and I bought coconut milk and pork to complete the dish.

I cooked the winged beans in coconut milk for lunch, savoring the rich, creamy flavor. The recipe was simple but comforting, and I had enough leftovers to enjoy again for dinner. Out of gratitude, I shared a bowl with my neighbor, who smiled and told me it was delicious. That moment reminded me how food connects us, not just through taste but through kindness and community.

Cooking also stirred up memories of my childhood. When I was young, I served as my mother’s assistant in her carinderia. From elementary to college, we maintained that humble eatery, and I helped whenever I didn’t have classes. Those days taught me the joy of preparing meals for others. But when I started working, I seldom cooked at home. My time was mostly devoted to work. Today felt special, like rediscovering a part of myself I had set aside.

Thank you, Hive friends, for joining me in this little journey of flavors and memories. Cooking winged beans may seem simple, but it carried with it kindness from a neighbor, nostalgia from my youth, and gratitude for the present. May we all continue to find joy in the meals we share and the stories they carry. šŸ’•
