It was December last year when we took a one-week vacation at Lantangan Gigantes Sur. The place where my family spent 20 years of living, so basically, I called the place as my hometown.

Gigantes Island has two sides, the South and the North. Both of them were blessed with rich and stunning beaches, surrounded with clean salt water with bountiful sea foods that sustained the needs of the people living in the area.

Most of the sea foods there were have unique taste and physical appearance. The most popular sea shell that keep their economy going strong was the scallop. Scallop comes with different colors and sizes. And people in the island were the biggest supplier of it all over the Philippines.

Of course, just like any other places, people in the island have also lots of struggles. When the Southeast monsoon and typhoons visited the place, fishermen cannot go fishing. The challenge of looking for food was tight, but good thing they could simply go to the sea shores and scratch the sand, there they could find small white shells called “agihis” or “butigis” in local dialect. The agihis has a very rich taste, a combination of sweet and salty flavor could melt in your mouth.

Aside from having a bountiful see foods and beautiful beaches in Iloilo North, people there were very generous and hospitable. They love accommodating visitors from other places without asking for a price in exchange. They were just very happy to share what they have, and that’s the best thing that my husband loves the most when he visited my hometown for the first time. People there were naturally helpful and friendly.

If you were looking for lovely beaches with adventures, you could try this place. Surely, the experience will be worth it. Going there from Luzon was quite challenging if you take a ship or roro vessel because the travel time was about 16 hours to 22 hours, but if you want it a convenient and faster travel, take the plane and in just 1 hours of flying above the sky you will land at the nearest airport. From there, you need to take a bus or as van to get to the port where you could buy tour packages and rent a boat to roam around the hidden escapade.

I hope next year, we could visit there again.
