Seeing Star Wars on The Big Screen

in Movies & TV Shows3 months ago

I went to see Star Wars last saturday, and I have to say, it was amazing!

Last week Aimee saw that the original Star Wars was being played in the cinema, and we had to book our tickets and go see the film.

Me, Aimee, my mum, and my dad got our tickets to see it, and it was brilliant.

I'd never seen it on the big screen, but my dad told me that I did back in the late 90's right before The Phantom Menace came out, and we all went to the cinema to see the 3 originals.

I can't remember that, but it makes sense that they would have re-released the films in cinema around that time.

What edition was it?

It was, I think, the 2006 edition, with some added special effects, and some sound changes.

The two major re-releases of the films which included some major changes was the 1997 VHS release, and the 2006 DVD boxset release. I have both of them, and to be honest, I didn't really mind some of the changes made, even though I kind of thought some of the choices were silly.

Upon watching this on the big screen, I actually noticed that some of the special effects, aren't all that special anymore.

The CGI looks very dated, especially on the big screen, namely of the dew backs, and the little added aliens and beasts when they get to Mos Eisley.

One of the most noteworthy things I noticed was the Sand Speeder looking a bit awkward and the perspective seeming off by a lot, while they make their way through the streets of Mos Eisley.

Other than that, nothing really stood out to me as bad.

I think the reason I noticed this stuff this time is because it was on the big screen, but also, it could do with the fact that the last time I watched this movie, it was the De-specialized Edition, and to be honest, if you're a fan of these films, and you'd like to see Star Wars, as close to it was during its initial release in theatres, then it's the closest thing you'll find.

The De-specialized Edition was a labour of love, made possible by the countless hours of fans of these movies, and their main goal was to kind of restore, and preserve the original form of this movie, since it isn't too readily available anymore.

There was the official De-specialized edition, which came with the 2006 boxset, but as many fans said, the colour grade is off with it, and makes many of the characters look flushed, and red.

The Rest of The Films

This week, they've brought out The Empire Strikes Back, and next week will be Return of The Jedi.

I want to see all three of them, because to be honest, hearing these films with the sound system of the cinema, really just makes the whole experience and it doesn't compare to just watching it at home.

Empire and the Original have always kind of vied for the top spot on my list, and occasionally Return of The Jedi creeps up there near the top.

When I was a kid, it would have been Return of The Jedi, followed closely by Empire. As I got a bit older, Empire became my favourite, and A New Hope kind of climbed to the top of the list, and there has been this constant tug of war between the two of them. But, when all is said and done, Empire nearly always wins out overall, and that's another reason I need to see this one, specifically.

Oh yes 1977, what a year as my brother was born and then there was Star Wars. An amazing year! Learning to exist alongside another child when I was five years old was quite something. He was amazing and still is lol!

Then Dad took me up to London during the school holidays, as he worked there for Corgi toys I think it was at the time. We went to the cinema and my memory tells me it was the Odeon in Leicester Square. I could be wrong it might have been Reading cinema for all I know but Darth Vader! Jesus! He terrified me and had me awestruck all at once. Yes I was five but the film played wonders on my imagination after that.

I saw it in 77 when we had to wait quite a while for films to come on TV. A school friend saw it several times then. It was revolutionary.

That's cool, I'm a fan of Star Wars :)
