I had just completed the last episode of this old but gold series and I'm wondering how come I didn't see it long a ago. It's one of the series I've got recommendations on, saw lots of clips from it on Tiktok and friends have talked about it but I never decided to see it until recently.
You may not believe what got me interested in the series... The characters... I saw three very familiar faces on the cast section when I got another recommendation in my last series download. These faces have done more awesome work in the Korean movie industry so I was curious to see what their acting was like before.
So I found myself seeing "Extraordinary You", a 2019 released series. That is more than four years old already and I'm only getting to see it now. Well, that didn't make the excitement in seeing the series any less or not worth it.
"Extraordinary You" is a Rom-com series with lots of touches of fantasy to make you wonder and keep you in a suspense that you'll love as you progress to each episode. Talk of a fake life and a real life, making us wonder if we're actually being drawn by our creator to act as He wants us to. Well, that's just a wonder and this is just another series with a very unique storyline...
Dan Oh, a high school girl is the only child from a wealthy family, has a congenital heart disease and is betrothed to Baek Kyung, a guy who is forced to accept her feelings because of her father's wealth. One day, Dan Oh wonders why her memory keeps disappearing. She finally realizes that she is a character in the cartoon and decides to find her real life and love.
Meanwhile, a character that doesn't even have a name, Number 13, lives like a background of the other characters, but his life slowly changes after meeting Dan Oh. They begin their mysterious adventure to find out the secret of the romance cartoon world, and they try to get their independent lives back. The adventure is made in two, in stage and out of stage.
What happens to the story they were forced to star in as characters? How would they change their fate that has already been decided? Would there be enough romance in this series?
The series is a total package and it's a wonder that they could act such a unique storyline years ago, making me confirm once again that Korean writers and directors are innovative and showing improvements as regards to how their next stories would be. The characters in this series seem to be too good for it but that is what makes it an extraordinary watch for me.
Seeing Kim Ro-Woon from "Destined With You" and "Tomorrow", Lee Jae-wook from "Alchemy of souls" and Kim Young-Dae from "Shooting stars"... You can bet that I had more fun seeing these characters in this series after seeing their recent release. The whole acting was refreshingly different.
And to be honest, the female lead (Dan Oh) is my favourite in this series for all the roles she played and how well she played them. I'll have to check out for more series she may had starred in after this one.
It's a 9/10 for me and yes, it has a lot to do with the characters and how far gone it has before I decided to see it. So highly recommended and do let me know what you think about the storyline.
