Charity events can be amazing. People love volunteering to work at the event, and friends & family love to go to the event and spending money on it knowing it's for a good cause. Such is the case of Salazón hotdog festival, a yearly fundraiser for an organization named Eat Better Wa'ik that generates food awareness and actions to reduce malnutrition through creative and inclusive education, economics, transformative agriculture, consumption and technology in Guatemala, and in the Central American region.
This year, 24 of the most recognized chefs from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica and Panamá came together in Catorce Grados for Salazón 2024!

The idea was to make anywhere from 80 to 120 hot dogs per chef with each one adding his/her personal touch by choosing their own bread, selection of sausage and toppings.
The stuff chefs come up with in the name of charity (and fun) are absolutely amazing. For starters, as a man of the grill, the folks in charge of making the food brought all sorts of open-fire contraptions such as this one:
You could smell those babies from a block away!
I grabbed a can of Chela Guevara red ale and turned my spectacles to high for increased HD vieweing.

It didn't take long before we were asking waitresses passing by "excuse me, can I have what he's having?"
I mean, look!
These are caramelized onions, bacon and dill garnish
And these right here had "mustard caviar" which are basically mustard seeds that have been soaked for a about a week:
Some folks got super creative even switched out the hot dog bread for pita bread:
We sat down and kept hydrated with delicious beer to support the cause! And also for culinary reasons. combining different ales, IPAs, stouts and lagers can really enhance the flavors, so we kept
ordering hot dog after hot dog after hot dog...
Man, it tastes good to help :)

Cooks were cooking, the bands were jamming and the whole event is still going on the entire weekend, but day 1 has but day one has been a huge success in my opinion.
How's YOUR weekend coming along?
