Do you feel a person needs to drink alcohol to have a good time in a social setting?
I feel like I can sum up my post in one sentence - I am allergic to alcohol! Hahahaha!
So obviously, my answer would be no.
But before I explain further, it's probably worthwhile to address the elephant in the room. I totally agree what people say about alcohol makes people less inhibited, and with alcohol, people tend to be more willing to talk or "be more social", which I guess is the intended argument behind the prompt. For a non-alcoholic like me, my view is that there are many other factors that are more important than alcohol to have a good time in a social setting.
First, the company. I think the social settings are different when you are with your family, or with your friends, or with your colleagues. Having a good company is definitely more important than the type of drink in your cup. (For those Harry Potter fans out there, you would know that Butterbeer is not an alcoholic drink! Hehe!)
Second, the ambience. I think the ambience of the bar/restaurant plays a factor. Some bars have live bands which are great for group parties, some bars have more cosy settings which are more suited for heart to heart conversations. This was taken at a cafe near my workplace, and I thought the ambience was pretty unique considering it's right in the middle of the bustling city.
As for myself, despite not being able to take alcohol, nothing is stopping me from having an awesome time with my friends in a social setting! You might be surprised - there's actually a wide variety of non-alcoholic drinks on the menu. For those who are on a budget, there's soft drinks such as Coke or Sprite. For those who are more health conscious, there's usually a long list of juices! Cranberry juice is usually my order because it's not something that can be commonly found. And yes, there are mocktails! They are the non-alcoholic version of cocktails. Just like cocktails, there are many different concoctions for mocktails as well. Here's some juices that I had at a bar in Bali!
And the best part? It would be more watching your friends slowly getting drunk and I would be the only one that is 100% sane and sober. HAHA!
So that's it for my wacky entry this week! Have a great weekend ahead!
